Love it. This is very timely and useful information here in the great fire state of California.

@@HomePerformance : I have unfinished basement and my radon level is ~10. I am planning to install a erv to fetch fresh air to basement rather than installing a radon fan. Let me know your thoughts. Also can we use a pvc pipe for ducting erv.

When I first stumbled onto this video, I was excited to see someone do a hands-on review, but as the video progressed I became increasingly dismayed. They discussed the construction of each, and their testing only measured air flow and not how well they keep embers out, which is THE reason to use these vents! I don't know if anyone else noticed that the Vulcan vent was the only one named, by the way. The other two vents looked like vents made by Embers Out and Brandguard; why they were not also named is puzzling. There are only three attic vent manufacturers who are approved by the California Department of Forestry and State Fire Marshal and these are they. Sure, the Vulcan vent had the best airflow numbers, but that does not necessary mean they keep embers out more, or better than vents made by Embers Out and Brandguard. Cost, availability, and which vent fits and gives you the net free area you need for a properly vented attic are the factors to consider in choosing which manufacturer to go with. Lastly, using 1/16th inch hardware cloth in vents is an effective and affordable way to go too.

Fantastic video as always, guys! I'm looking forward to our conversation in July. I wonder if these vents would be a good solution that would allow me to use 1 ERV for the garage and the living space above, yet keep the fire barrier rating between the two spaces?
