FIRE SEASON IS COMING - Tackling Land Work with Friends - Off Grid

There's always loads of work to do around the land on my off grid homestead and, with fire season approaching, time is of the essence! Sanchia and Sinead have loads to do at their places, too, and e've been helping each other get things done. The weather got hot really fast and it's been a struggle but it's nice to feel tired and gross at the end of a long day!
This video is a good mix of work across all of our lands, plus I throw some fun things in there as well. I hope you enjoy it! If you do, please give it a like! Thanks!

Kirsty, try securing the broken plum tree branch by bandaging it with grafting tape or cling film then a couple zip ties. The branch will hopefully then recover. What you dont want is for the break to become infected. Great work achieved. 💚

Thanks for the tip! I guess I could lighten the load as well and give that a try! It would be a shame to lose the whole branch!

Wow! Lots of work to do and completed! The heat must make it tough, but thank goodness for your pool, Kirsty. Sinead seems to be making lots of progress too! The plum tree looks amazing and hopefully you will find a solution for that cracked branch. If you can't, I bet there are recipes for unripened plums somewhere. Your cats seem to enjoy the heat! All will happen in good time. It helps to have a friend doing the same things. Have a great week, all four of you!! Best wishes from a now pretty summery Toronto. Angela

The pool will be amazing for the heat but so far the summer has been perfect. I think I need to chop the branch plus a couple others but I have also propped some. I'll search for recipes because there will be lots of unripe ones. 🙂

Have the tractor drive over the pile of branches and the mower will chop down into manageable pieces. Makes great mulch. I grew up on a fruit orchard in B.C and my dad used the tractor and mower to make mulch for 30 years. Only use on branches smaller than about 3/4 inch.
@private15
@private15 22 күн бұрын
A long row of prunings is easier for the tractor to manage than big round piles.
@PortugalfromScratch
@PortugalfromScratch 22 күн бұрын
Good to know! The tractor did drive over most of the branches but it went around that huge pile. Lessons learned for next year!

My original comment seems to have disappeared, the plum tree broken branch needs to be cut cleanly a little above the break to allow the tree to form a seal otherwise you'll get infection &/or rot setting in. The tree can't grow back, particularly in the harsh conditions of Portugal.

@PortugalfromScratch 22 күн бұрын
