I’m trying to start up pottery on the wheel! I’m so glad you post these videos, I’m trying my hardest to raise money as a 12 year old. I took a summer school class this year and found out I had a talent for it and really enjoyed it. Then talked to my parents about it and they were open to trying to help me out. I’m super excited to try it out, thank you for the advice!

This is so sweet! Reminds me of myself when I was a little girl. If you still have an interest in pottery and haven’t gotten supplies have your parents respond to this and send me their Venmo username, I’m happy to make a $ contribution with what we can. My husband is a teacher and I’m a former teacher now stay at home mom, love seeing kids with such awesome passions like pottery. Hope my kids find a love for such awesome hobbies when they’re older! 😃

Literally not even done with this video and had to comment that you are SO HELPFUL. Wow, thank you, really. I am looking to start my own ceramics operation at home and needed to know where to start and how I would fire things if I didn't have a kiln of my own!

Took a class last summer and I just haven't had a chance to get back to a studio. I've been thinking about working from home but wondered if I could drop my projects off somewhere. Thanks for the info 😉

Thanks for your great videos! They are a big help in these strange times, where most of the clay courses are cancelled, studio owners are wary and I'm thinking about setting myself up with a wheel at home. Do you have any tipps on transporting greenware to the place of the kiln? As you said, dry greenware is so brittle and delicate - how do you manage that?

Thanks for your kind words! Definitely the best way to do it is to transport during the leatherhard stage, whenever possible. Wrap them well and transport them in a firm box or basket.

Thank you for for all the great tips refreshing my pottery knowledge as it's been years. I'm wanting to make custom unglazed sandstone planters for my tropical Bonsai hobby. I have found a small kiln that gets to 1200c, would this be fine for unglazed planters?

It depends on the clay. Make sure your clay will vitrify at 1200, or you'll have leaky planters (unless you want leaky planters!) I suggest you go for earthenware clay, that vitrifies at about 1100c.

Hello!!! Is there a pottery wheel you can recommend? I'm looking at brent c wheels but they are pricey. I want to know if there is an alternative. Thanks in advance

We use Shimpo RK-55. They are good for beginners and cheaper I think.

Community studios near me require you to have 75 hours of classes from them and only fire with the clay they sell. I’m a newbie and want to hand build at home and learn but can’t afford a kiln or paying for that many classes and then the membership.

Good Day, I decided not to rent a kiln, because there was this "excellent" package deal. So, I ordered a brand new Caldera XL test kiln. When I opened the packaging to inspect the kiln, I noticed it have some incomplete sealant between the floor and wall bricks. In addition, I noticed the lid had a chipped about 1"x0.5" and another minor chip. There was also a heating element kind of off-seated. When the vendor got back to me, they were saying this is normal, to be expected, and most seasoned potters would find these things cosmetic and can be easily sealed/repaired. However as a customer of various products (stained glass to clothes to food), I can't find their explanation logical. I actually do quality for work and if a supplier would have shipped a part in that condition, I would reject it and then write the supplier up dinging their ratings. Then it was starting to sound as if, they were going about to hint that I could do the minor sealant repairs. This is starting to sound/smell fishy, I wanted to get your opinion and thoughts. Is this really normal? Or is this just the result of poor packaging? Or are they trying to pull a fast one because I'm a novice? I greatly appreciate all and any advice you have.
