FireAlpaca Basics (Layers, Clipping, and Shading)

i'm still not sure with the layer tools that has number 1 and 8 on it, what is that for?

Those are 1-bit and 8-bit layers. I don't usually use them, but I've heard they can be useful if you want to keep the file size down. Unlike regular layers, you'll only be able to use one color on each layer, which you can adjust by clicking the gear icon on the right side of each layer thumbnail in the "Layers" tab. I find that both work best for line art. Good luck! :)

No problem! Try going up to the "Window" tab at the top of the screen. Click on that tab, and then click on "color." I hope that helps!

How do you convert a 1-bit layer to a normal layer? I am new to FireAlpaca and have been unknowingly using 1-bit for all my layers and have everything drawn on it. I can't find any info regarding my problem because they're outdated by 7-10 years.

Great tutorial! Btw, how did u make the light blue ball perfect circle with the bucket tool even though the line art of the ball was on a different layer above it at 0:13

When you click on the fill bucket, you should see a second toolbar. On the left side, just to the right of the undo/redo buttons, you should see "Reference" with a drop down menu. Make sure that this is set to "Canvas" and not "Active Layer." Hope this helps!

@@anneloew Woah, I just tried it and it sure is a life saver! I always had to fill the colors in the same layer as my line art. As one could guess, super frustrating. Thanks you so much for responding and telling me this. It really helps me get my art done a lot more effectively. Feel free to tell me more tips, I'm kind of a newbie to art. Go to the toolbar at the top of the screen and select "Window." You should get a drop down menu. From that menu, select "Layer." Your layers window should appear on the side of the screen. Hope this helps!
