In this "How To" episode, Kyle explains the purpose and functionality of a lever action rifle. Lever action rifles are no longer a common or frequently used firearm due to their slightly outdated style of reloading. Firearm companies have developed more effective ways of reloading in more recent years. However the lever action rifle is still applicable and useful for nearly every hunting situation that would require a rifle. The lever action rifle would be a good fit for an intermediate or experienced sportsman.
- Safety should ALWAYS be your number one priority.
-ALWAYS remember to wear the proper safety equipment and use proper firearm handling techniques.

Thank you. Great video for beginner enthusiasts like myself who didn't grow up around firearms. Much appreciated.

Very informative video. Ordered a lever action as my first firearm (it hasn’t come in yet) and was a little nervous because I didn’t understand how the safety worked. Thank you for this.

My firearms safety instructor said that he hated lever guns precisely because of the way you engage the safety. Apparently he had a few unintentional discharges. Personally, I love my 1894 and it goes to the range with me on every trip. The more you use it the better you understand where the break is on the trigger pull, the better able you are to drop the hammer slowly and safely. My only dislike of them is the occasional hot brass going down the back of my shirt. Also worth mentioning the lever needs to be squeezed to disengage the trigger safety on many models post 64.

There is a tiny tit that sticks out until you squeeze the lever and then the rifle will fire

Most people that I know have lever rifles that have two additional safeties that you do not cover. The 1873 is more common. I think you did cover the importance of using a round nose or flat point cartridges to avoid the risk of a chain fire.

If you have the weapon pointed in a safe direction if you bobble the safety all you do is make a lot of noise. A 100% foolproof way to assure that you won't have a ND when lowering the hammer to half cock is to simply interpose the thumb of your off hand between the hammer and the firing pin. Same with decocking a DA revolver. The primary safety is between your ears.

I have no experience in lever action rifles and i heard some people say dont use FMJ pointed ammunition in a lever action rifle or in recoil action a bullet can strike the primer of the other bullet on front of it and make it detonate. is safe to use FMJ pointed bulelts example a 308 or 223 FMJ?

We use soft tips. You like that primer and it’s going to go off. Period.

My Brit ears will NEVER get used to a "Levver action" gun, as opposed to a Lever action.

I have never noticed a problem but my grand-father's 30 -30 showed signs of wear which I think can not be avoided.
