1988 Formula Firebird originally had 5.0 TBI
Swapped 5.7 TPI from a 1992 Z28 Camaro
More issues with the TPI engine. It's vapor locked and left me stranded on three different occasions.
In this video, I change the Ignition Control Module. Then, I came back to change the distributor rotor button. I've been through these parts on this motor multiple times already.
I think the ECU is bad...
I've had more problems and broke down a couple more times a little over a month after all this was recorded!

Hey, I just watched the Old Car Guy live show and they were interviewing FiTech and they mentioned that they make a plug and play computer control system for the sbc TPI engines from the mid '80s to the early '90s. You could probably sell the LS engine you have and buy the FiTech kit? I went to the their website and found their kit, it does exist but the bad part is that it is a very popular kit they sell and they might be on back order at the moment?

Thanks! That's awesome you found this and thought of me friend. I appreciate this. I had no idea about that. I did take a look. I think my issue now is the VATs bypass module Hawks installed is burnt out. I ordered a new one. If that isn't it(I'm pretty positive it is), then I'll be leaning towards replacing the ECU. I think I'm set in stone on tearing this TPI out. I've just had enough. It's burnt me completely out. This engine always destroyed what little funds I can save just to dump more into it. It's a never-ending cycle going on for years now. You can only gain so much performance from the TPI engine as is. Unless I look at heads, cam, bolts on, etc. By then, it'll have the stock HP of a 5.3. And when the TPI's reliability is so much less than expected, I'm just beyond ready to swap this nightmare drive train. It'll give some good content too. I have 3 videos right now I still haven't finished. I'll get one up after this weekend. 🙏

The engine did run better again this time around... for all of a month lol then left me stranded yet again. She burned the pickup coil up this time.

@@NotAGarage Stupid new old technology, good old points and carbs didn't mess with us that bad! Hope you get her figured out? On the bright side after everything that can go wrong with it does and you fix it you'll be an expert if something happens again? Good luck.

@@NotAGarage Oh yeah, It's not the engine's fault, it is the engine control system you hate, those engines were nice for what they were back then. Maybe think about a new engine control system to get that thing going? A Mega Squirt or the Holley system Richard Holdener uses when he makes junk run on the dyno?
