Great interview. Loved every minute. But then I am a little biased because he is my son. And you are just like a son to me. Keep doing great things.

Thank you Mr P. And I’m def a son in the Peterson family. Glad you liked the video. We will be posting his journey to the job story in the next couple of uploads. Be sure to look out for it, it was a good one. YARM did a great job of explaining the reality of pursuing a fire career. The candidates out there will find it extremely valuable 💪🏼🙏🏼

Out of the hundred videos ive watched in the last 6 months in preparation, i needed this one. Im starting in a week! Not knowing what to expect is killing me. Im 30 so i been running like crazy and doing hundereds of pushup/situp/pullups a week so i can keep up with these young bucks, but i see okder people graduate all the time. Im doing a community college academy in florida for my ff1/ff2 certs then apply to departments. Going in as an EMT. Wish me luck man! There is no video like this on youtube so thanks for the insight and wisdom.

@imperiumrandom8731 I'm in southwest Florida. I over thought it looking back. Just make sure you can run a couple miles kind of quickly and do a ton of push ups and sit ups. The physical side of the academy is all mental and some people quit. If you try and give a crap you will be just fine. The academic side was definitely the hardest. Lecture one day, test the next morning over and over again. 80% minimum and you can only fail 1 time. If you get under an 80% once, ok but a second time and they kick you out no if ands or buts about it. Started at 34 and ended with 24. Got lucky and got a job 2 months later. Now I'm 4 months on in a department. Best choice I've ever made. It's worth it. Give a crap, try as hard as you can and be good at studying. Don't over think it but don't come up short either.

@@hookedonthebay3890 ive worked up to a 24:45 5k been running every morning, then doing circuits in my turnouts in the evenings, ive gotten up to 75 pushups 30 pullups carrying 50lb buckets 300ft, carrying a tire on my shoulder 300ft, then walking a mile with a 30lb backpack, all without drinking water in my turnouts. about 30-45 minutes in gear total, but i know it will be a good portion of the day in academy.

I'm a 51 year old with no fire fighting background who was recently hired on as a PT On-call fire fighter at the 4th largest Fire Department in Minnesota and have always had a dream of being a fire fighter. My dream is coming true, but I struggle a bit with keeping up with younger, stronger fireman due to my age. I like your guest, am very nervous about Fire Academy. Our Academy is 2 nights a week for 4 hours a night, for 5 months or so. I'm wondering how to overcome the wear and tear my body has already taken on over the last 51 years of my life and do well at the Academy. Kudos to the young man you interviewed! What a class act!!!

I wish nothing but the best for you brotha. Being older definitely comes with its challenges (so I've heard from several older mentors). They tell me that they rely more on the brain, mental capacity, and life experience to get them through challenges in the job and in the Acadmey. They tell me at the end of the day, they gotta do what they gotta do to keep up with the younger guys. They also say that doubt in a sense is normal seein the younger crowd on the job, but with the proper preparation and the right mindset heading into the job or academy can help alleviate a lot of that stress/doubt. At the end of the day we are all a team and rely on one another to be successful through it all Please keep me posted on your progress And yes, that's firefighter Peterson from SFFD in Cali. He has always been a solid guy

All normal feelings my man. It’s all good. Research what you can about their fire academy and continue to stay on your fitness regimen and nutrition. They will be there to challenge you but mainly help you be successful, no one is looking to fail you. great times ahead for you. A total grind, but great lol 💪🏼😂
