We used to throw LED hideaways in the taillights of our expeditions and crown vics and tie them to the brake lights which made them way brighter and they could flash.
@RSXSykO Жыл бұрын
I usually just replace the Taillights with the cannons all together in order to achieve the same results. Gives me both reverse, brake, turn signals. No drilling except to enlarge the lighting hole where the original hole is if the hole is too small. Usually some of the holes are a good size to fit the Lens through. BAM! Light installed, less time cutting splicing and soldering.

@treycamardelle2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Further into the video I show the lights operating in normal order as they should operate. I used the one way diodes to stop the current going from one light to the next to prevent that issue from happening.
@ricktong38382 жыл бұрын
@@treycamardelle I tried to do the same connecting rear red fog light with white reverse light creating an X pattern with a flasher, and like what you had done in your video, I connected one diode to prevent currents running back to the computer from the fog light end+ one diode for the reverse light end, and like the way you wired your lights, I have done the same thing (a diode inbetween the red and white lights as well) and I could only manage to let either white reverse light work independently or red rear fog light work independently when in normal use, but still cannot make both sets work independently like how they should work when not flashing. So what I mean is, when i connect the inbetween diode to the red light end, the rear fog lights will turn on without the white reverse lights turn on, but at the same time when I am reversing then both red fog lights and white reverse light both turn on; and when I connect the inbetween diode to the white reverse light, the situation turns around, so I could use reverse light fine but when I use rear fog light normal function then the reverse light will turn on.

@@ricktong3838 what type of flasher did you use? The one I’m using is a two light flasher that I’m using to power four lights. So this wiring diagram will only make sense with a two light flasher. If your using a two light flasher then make sure each fog light is connected to its own reverse light and not connected to each other. Make sure the diode going back to the computer is after the flasher tie in and not before it. Make sure all the diodes are facing the right way. Any reason why you chose red led for taillights instead of the white like stock? Just asking for reference. Also im assuming 18g wire would be fine for this love voltage setup? Ive been fighting myself for some time to figure out how to make a setup work nicely like this, because theres nowhere to even put a hideaway cleanly in the reverse housing. I love it! Awesome! Might make a video when i install mine too so others can benefit!
@treycamardelle4 жыл бұрын
Tree Myster for some odd reason I find that red lights show brighter in a red tail light. I tried white vertex lights in previous tail lights and they just weren’t as bright as the red ones. So I just used the same concept with the tail light bulbs. I would use 16 gauge wire just because your going to be going in and out of the frame and all the way to the front of the truck, which is a pretty long run and you don’t want to risk loosing voltage. You can do the same setup with making both brake lights flash at the same time and alternate with both reverse lights and it’ll be a little easier with less work. I personally wanted my right brake light to flash when my left reverse light flashed so I can alternate them that way. Thanks man!! I’m glad I was able to help you out with this.
@QuaabQueb Жыл бұрын
@@treycamardelle The reason for this has to do with the wavelength of the light being able to pass through. To put it in to simple terms, more of the red wavelength will pass through the red coloured plastic, where as if you where to install a white light, less of that light is able to pass through because some of it is being filtered out. Vehicle upfitting shops who know what they are doing will always put a red output hideaway light in a brake light housing, never a white one unless it is in the reverse or headlight section. As you correctly stated in your video the vehicle's light assembly is not optimized for this as the position of such a light will never be at the optimal angle for maximum light output. Back in the day they would drill out a 1 inch hole in the light housing and rtv silicone in a high voltage stroboscopic bulb. That was high tech in those days. Well they got hot or came loose and often just ended up melting the light housing. Then of course LED's came along... Now we are seeing fleet-ready vehicles or the "police package" vehicles coming equipped from the factory with such functions built in.

I had everything except for the LED light bulbs so it didn’t cost me much, but if you don’t have any of these items then you’ll be looking to spend around $125 for everything. Which in my eyes is still about $100 cheaper than putting in hide aways and drilling into your tail light (if you use whelen). And you get the benefit of having LED brake and reverse lights for everyday use.
