"Smooth, bump bump, straight to the pump" is how the veterans taught me. Yours is pretty good too; hadn't heard it before.

I was taught, "Brass to Brass you'll burn your ass. Brass to hose, follow your nose." It's definitely stuck in my mind and helps me out greatly.

If you cant feel the coupling set by reaching your hands out and you have a tool with you, slide the tool along the hose, whatever the length of the tool, thats how much more reach you will gain. If the tool does contact the coupling, you will know. None of these methods are 100% full-proof, but, all are taught to increase the odds of us getting out, alive. Lumps to Pumps, save our Bumps !! Thanks for taking the time to share a great video. Stay Low, Stay Safe, Brother !

Smooth bump, bump to pump! That's the one I keep seeing. I like little to big, back to the rig as well but it might be harder to remember under duress.

I learned "straight, bump, bump... leads to the pump" and it seems to work well. That and to ALWAYS keep one hand on the line so you don't lose your orientation.

Very nice ! I am a training officer in my dept, and the way I teach the guys is: The smooth part is female (think of female skin, it's smoother). The bigger lugs are male (male skin is rougher). Now, the word "female" has 2 syllables, the word "Nozzle" has two syllables; The word "male" has 1 syllable, the word "truck" has 1 syllable. Whatever system we use, as long as the guys understand it. (Footnote...Our Firehouse burned to the ground 3 months ago, and we lost everything except 2 trucks.)

cool video..but what if its instantaneous couplings??
@Firemedic71213 жыл бұрын
Do the female couplings on the hose you were using have higbee indicators?
@JaySmith-or3us5 жыл бұрын
But what if the hose is coiled or looped many times inside, or if a situation happens where the female and male are pointing the opposite way?

You can hear the couplings drop in a fire. I dont think so cause you have so many noises around you and you have an SCBA pack on while your breathing you wont ear anything

A hose coupling(www.winnerfirehose.com/fire-hose-couplings_c7) is connector on the end of hose to connect or couple it with another hose or with a tap or hose appliance, such as irrigation sprinkler. It is usually made of steel,brass,stainless steel,aluminium or plastic. Used for combining fire hose with fire hose ,fire hydrant ,water lance and the fire-fighting truck so that they are to supply water or foam mixture for putting out fire.
