At last, I found a decent hydrant training video that does NOT have a weird looking hydrant, an arsenal of uncommon hydrant tools and fittings or is full of rookie mistakes and bad practices. Thanks guys.

I get the impression it was done as a bit of a spoof! It was an excellent presentation.
I just randomly picked this video to explain to my 4 year old what a fire hydrant was, scrolled through until I saw water coming out and then the arm 😂😂😂 he’s never going to look at the hydrant in our yard the same again

Interesting differences between ffs from other places. I'm a ff in NH, we don't have any normal hydrants in town, but we run a lot of mutual aid to towns that do, we dont have out hose direct on the hydrants, we use a hydrants assist valve. A lot of the hydrants dont have rhe pressure they used to, so the valve allowes us to pump up the pressure of the hydrant, then the main supply line goes to the fire where its split off by some gated wys. Also, when stretching our 4 inch off the top, we pull some off, double it up, then have a ff kneel on it to keep it in place

well here in Michigan, it takes about a year of training and schooling to become an active firefighter and to respond on calls. i started off as (and still currently) a paid on call firefighter at my local department. if your looking to become a fire fighter i would say stop by a few of your local departments and ask what it takes. during training and schooling you will learn about he human body, medical emergencies, fighting fires, saving lives and so much more. As you progress into training you'll definitely understand that there is way more into becoming a firefighter then you expected, but along the way you will understand why and why its the best job to have in the world. good luck on your journey!

Im a german Fire Fighter. While supporting the basic training we once had a guy not opning the valve of thr hydrant not fully. The hydrant had almost 5 Bar pressure weich should be easy capable of suplying a b sitzend model (About 400 Liters per minute). oh boy where we wondering when we would only reach 2 Bar pressure (normal would be 8) out of the Pumpe maintainig an adequet intakte pressure to the pump

When flowing a hydrant it is very important to turn it off slowly to fast can cause water hammer and burst the main where I work the FD inspects and flows the hydrants to clean the lead pipe from the main ever year.

Do you connect the hose directly to the hydrant or is there some nozzle you have to put on there first before it'll fit on?

Fire hydrant(www.winnerfirehose.com/fire-hydrant_c6) is a connecting piece with valve installed on the fire control piping network in the buildings to supply water to fire scene. It is a kind of indoor fixed fire control unit equipped in the plants, warehouses, high-rise buildings and public buildings, as well as vessels, etc. , to fight fire in the buildings. It is normally installed inside the fire hydrant case to be used with fire control water band and water gun.

7:05 How does the hydrant drain? Does it have a drain plug?
@THATHATSALLFOLKS3 жыл бұрын
HOLE ON THE BOTTOM..IT SEALS WHEN FULLY OPENED..OPEN WHEN CLOSED OR IN BETWEEN....THAT IS WHY IT SHOULD NEVER BE LEFT HALFWAY...
@jockm79403 жыл бұрын
@@THATHATSALLFOLKS In relatively modern hydrants there is commonly a 1/4" +/-threaded drain hole/plug located just above the valve resilient seal. As the hydrant is being opened the valve seal rises slowly passed the drain hole briefly allowing a short "puff" of pressurized water to escape through the drain hole thus clearing the hole of debris, the hole is once again sealed as the valve continues to rise open to the full flow position, the drain hole "clearing" cycle once again is activated just before the valve is returned to the fully seated closed position. In new construction the hydrant is usually delivered to the site with the drain plug screwed in place to be removed before the hydrant is back-filled. The fire marshal/inspector should check that the plug has been removed and the hydrant base and drain rock is wrapped in filter fabric prior to backfill and compaction. Failure to properly install the hydrant and clearing the drain hole may lead to icing/freeze failure and unexpected dangerous retained pressure issues.

wish this video and others would talk about how they need to open and close hydrants slower so as not to cause line hammer and other issues
@rafon.6 жыл бұрын
Dug Kub, it did talk about opening it slowly. It's not a charged line to cause a hammer effect. That's why it takes several turns to open it. It's not like it fully opens by opening a gate or with a push of a button...
