Firefighters give water to thirsty baby koala and mother on Kangaroo Island, Australia

Firefighters have been filmed using the correct method to give water to a thirsty baby koala and mother on Kangaroo Island in Australia.
It comes as it's emerged that a koala that suffered minor burns in the deadly fires has DROWNED after being given too much water by rescuers.
The vulnerable bear, named Arnie, was saved from an inferno in Victoria's East Gippsland and sustained small wounds to his hands and feet.
However, despite surviving the wild fire, the animal died after being given a drink from a bottle of water by kindhearted strangers.
Coverage of the blazes in Australia, which have killed at least 28 people and an estimated one billion animals, has included viral clips showing animal lovers pouring water into the mouths of the stricken bears.
However, experts are now warning that koalas should only lap water from a bowl and that pouring liquid into their mouths can fill their lungs which can prove fatal.

No it does not mean that. There is no food around, and if they got burned they can get secondary infections. And if their fat tissue was heated up to boiling point they can die from sepsis even a week or more after the actual fire.

One curious fact: The smoke from the Australian fires crossed the entire Pacific ocean (half the globe) and reached my city here in south Brazil. I saw it with my own eyes. Also the sunset here was darker than usual due to the smoke.

Koalas dont normally drink unless they are really thirsty because they didnt get enough from the gum leaves. Thats the only reason they will drink water and normally in extreme heat.

@Al Strider The conditions for fires gets worse as the vegetation and soil gets dryer and dryer with each passing year. The fire season gets longer with each passing year. Why would we allow this trend to continue when we can do something to change it ? We've never seen fires as bad as we have recently and there's no mystery why considering we just saw the hottest decade on record. Of course there's always fires here,but you'd have to be a complete moron not to know that a warming planet will make them more common and more extreme. Wake up Bolt fan.
