Several Firetrucks from different towns in Montana rolled thru town today. Sutter county isn't threatened by fire right now but our neighboring counties Butte and Yuba have been hit pretty hard. I just want to say a great big "THANK YOU" to all of the out of state firefighters who have come to California to help fight these devastating fires.

Firefighters cal trans and emergency responders kicked ass on this fire and so far saved our little communities forest falls and mountain home village. We are so grateful and can't thank you enough. Our thoughts and prayers as you continue battle this fire.

P.S. These home owners should have trimmed these trees so fire fighters can be fighting a fire not doing yard work. Shame on the owners and the laws should force brush trimmed back in these areas.

Just to let you know firefighter wearing orange are inmates firefighter. They are train as a hand crew to fight fire by using garden tools to remove fuels

I agree I was an inmate fire fighter about 4-5 years ago. I got paid 1.30 cents per day for labor work and on fire hours we get paid 1 dollar per hour. Some fireman will just take their sweet ass time cause they get paid every minute plus bonus for fire hours

Those aren't garden tools! Do you keep a Pulaski and a McLeod around for your landscaping and is you shovel sharp enough to cut paper? I can tell that the 4 others here don't have a full understanding of what fire entails. Felons cannot do the job that their captains, engine captains and batt chiefs do. They don't have the experience and training for those positions. If they think they do it's a good thing they don't get the chance. I've worked over a hundred fires and worked with inmates on fires and project work. I have some idea of what fire suppression involves. I worked my tail off and didn't have a union. My count for friends and family members who had a LODD, Line of Duty Death, is now 5.

@@8ftbed It was more tree trimming than should have to be done. The homeowner should have done that and more. I can see that at least a couple of trees should be removed entirely. When firefighters start triaging what structures they can save and those they can't, places without defensible space don't get protected if resources, like they almost always are, are not sufficient to save everything. Sometimes when resources can protect everything some properties are not protected as doing so would unnecessarily expose firefighters to unacceptable risk.

Besides which, the FOGGERS make it really slippery. Sadly the name "wild land fire fighter' also involves dealing with idiots that think the world revolves around them, and have no qualms about endangering others. I try not to be one of those.

@@frankmorris4790 california mountains are different you cant just cut down trees in our forests, i live above the fire. i hear 10' is the clearance from tree limbs to house, mandated by insurance but i also see decks with trees as the centerpiece. I live in an Aframe cabin with a metal roof but my deck is 30x30 all wood

Not really. And since my insurance is AG associated it is somewhat different than regular home owners. But 10' as regards fire is nothing, so I can only imagine that it has more to do with roof damage from falling or rubbing, not fire. If you were to follow FS recommendations you'd be be fine I think. Although there are specifics to terrain, they also have kind of a generic recommendation of 100' defensible space, and ladder fuels removed to 7'-8'. 10-12' being better IMHO. I think there is a website Firesafe.com ??? People are often under the false impression that it's the fire wall that is the danger. In wind driven events the spark shower starts as much as a half hour before you see the first flames. and it can look like red blizzard, not a onesy or twosy kinda deal

California needs to do a better job with forest management. Lots of dead brush , debris from previous burns, along with tress with some kind of insect issue or disease. If this litter is cleaned out the wood is still 75% good as lumber. Might kill a few tree frogs or some other endangered species, but priorities right?
