I am 52 years old. Been listening to metal a long time with a love of heavy/melodic music. Every so often a album comes around that blows your mind. For me any Shape of Despair album, An Abstract Illusion "Woe" for example. If I never saw you on a end of year list I probably would have missed one of the most amazing albums ever made. Amazing jobs guys.

Air Not Meant for Us is honestly one of my favorite albums to come out this year and perhaps my favorite album of this genre. So much emotion, such majestic and intricate compositions. I fucking love this video. The lyrics being written, scribbled out, and rewritten. Man, that's the real shit you go through as a songwriter. You obliterate so many ideas that were only half-assed versions of the final thing. You kill the weak versions over and over to make the final version stronger. You accept that a little piece of your life, your pathetic, finite time, died to make something that wasn't fucking good enough and must be obliterated and forgotten in favor of something stronger, better, and more highly evolved. The song grows, and it eats a part of you. That's brutal as fuck and it is METAL.
