Coming home, coming down, how a humble Barlow helped me adjust to coming home.

It's a beautiful knife. Mine rides in my pocket every day and it's my go to in the camp kitchen these days and reminds me of a conversation by the campfire that I still treasure even if it didn't last nearly as long as I would have wanted. Lovely story, cheers mate!

I've a small Case Barlow that is a wonderful knife for the pocket. True delights, the Barlows are.

I love em but I wish someone would do one with more blade, not lots more but a bit - am I wrong?
@jack_batterson8 ай бұрын
No, you're not wrong at all. I'd like a 3" or 3.5" version. Still, one gets by..... @@fadingmargins

Enjoyed that, thank you. We are a nation of gardeners, not ranchers, and hunting anything that can't be brought down by a catapult or a dog is not supposed to be the preserve of the common man. For those reasons, never mind our foolishly drafted laws, old pocket knife patterns like the Barlow, sheepsfoot and Ettrick are highly appropriate and useful in this country.

They are indeed! You know, true confession, I have never tried an Ettrick...

You are rightfully proud of your nation and culture. Let us hope that isn't something that is only found in a museum one day. Many of America's cutlers and knife traditions are rooted in Sheffield. Even the stockman pattern that is ubiquitous in American ranching culture traces its origins to Sheffield. I'd bet a large share of the American population has some ancestral connection to Britain as well. That being said there is a certain appeal to being feral. I'm certain that regardless of how were equipped during your adventure, there was no danger because of it. In fact, I would argue that because you had tools that made you capable of more tasks there was a net increase in safety and productivity where ever you were. The Bark River knife is stunningly beautiful knife, form and function. I can completely relate to the need to re-acclimate after to having that at hand for a while.

Mo, so much common sense right there! Being "feral" is fundamental for a lot of us!

Glad you made it home. Glad you got to experience freedom most of those states are legally able to carry a gun as well for what it's worth but all you really need most of the time is a handkerchief and the handy little slip joint.

It is comforting to know that there are still places where liberty and common sense still prevail over fear and hysteria.

In New Mexico depending on where you camp you got a good chance of running into a mountain lion or a bear and now they have started relocating wolves here. Some of those States you went to have even bigger Critters .

Nice video Steve, I'm currently carrying a Chris reeve small inkosi not a Barlow or a slip-joint but it's still nice but I still prefer a traditional.
@fadingmargins8 ай бұрын
Well that's something very special and about as far from a little Barlow as you can get - do you like it!?
