Ive built a complete toaster, instead of the top layer stopping at the mast, wrap it completely around and add cannons on the front so you'll need a crew of 7 -10 for extra passengers if you're farming crew

Things missing - Food Larder to feed the crew (nice spot right in the bow in front of the stairs), rope ladders to access the ship and I personally like a water barrel for drinking water and a preserving bag. After using for a while a few changes that help - change the lower deck rear wall for a doorway, this will allow you to walk through without issue to repair rear planks and add more usable space, also placing the ammo box further forward provides a nice step up without having to jump.

No need for armor. Build for speed. put three large cannon on the back on a raised platform. Add three nocs from freeport. Level for weight to get more speed each level. position downwind of the sotd. shoot with carbine to get agro. run down wind just fast enough to keep the sotd in range of your large cannons but out of range of the sotd common cannons. Waggle your rear to bring each large cannon in line with target. Pound the sotd. loot wreck. swap the sotd crew in water with your freeport crew. higher level crew seem to be more accurate. my sloop is level 41 with level 43 crew. no unnecessary weight which gives you more gold carrying capacity. Easy peasy. Set cannons for medium range ships only. set crew to target your target. hit V to let them fire and C to stop. as you lose weight in large cannon balls from battle you get faster and more gold carrying capacity. I can take as many sotd as I have ammo with only taking damage if i screw up somehow.

WinterSoldierTV Good question. I tried setting range to long which for the large cannon is actually quite far. The problem was the crew would auto fire at such a long range the the sotd many times would have already moved out from under the i pact point for a costly miss. The far end of Medium range on a large cannon is farther than the engagement range of the sotd cannon. Less travel time on the medium range shot so far fewer misses. I also recommend holding fire till you have a good shot on the bow so as the sotd travels the shot will impact point will be somewhere from bow to stern. If you fire on midships or stern the ship could move out from under the shot for a miss. As you have a limited supply of ammo, every large cannonball counts. Note you treat the whole ship as a turret with you three gun battery on the stern. The large cannon cannot travers but can elevate for range. The fire significantly farther and hit much harder then mediums. Weigh more then mediums as does their ammo. Sotd are quite slow so with a medium speed sail I typically am at 50 to 60 max sail as I run downwind. I learned from firespark to mount the wheel directly behind the mast so it is easy to silo sail the ship. if you do find yourself in range of the sotd, increase sail to max and zig zag a bit on your course to avoid their shots. A sloop is pretty agile and a small target. once your out of range, reduce speed and let them catch up to be in range of your guns again and start pounding them. Note...do not get totally fixated on the sotd you are fighting ,remember to periodically look ahead to see where you are heading. If you have to adjust corse to avoid another sotd for example, remember to increase your sail a bit to compensate for losing speed by moving off of full down wind with your sail setting. Kill some level level ones for practice then take on bigger prey. Haven’t seen anything higher then level 27 of which I have killed several. They drop about 50-75 gold each and a masterwork or legendary blueprint. The crew will be 27 but when you hire them they jump to 31-33. When swapping out your lower level crew for higher on the high seas, take the one you want to get rid of into the water and tell him to stay then get you new crew member and take them on board. This way you don’t exceed the ships crew limit and start to sink. another tip is unseat all crew when anchored in port. the gold maintenance is less when they are unseated from sailing or gunnery then when they are. Keep food on them or they will starve. any kind of common berry is fine. Quite satisfying to be killing high level sotd with a lowly sloop that others need fat brigs and galleons to accomplish. you gain the same loot while risking far less in ship cost.😎

A nice smithy and a mortar and pestle would be nice if you plan on producing more ammo without having to return to base. Also for extended use I'd recommend a larder so your crew doesn't mutiny.

If you are on official, place the sail and wheel before the upper layer of armour else you will have issues placing the wheel in the right place

You cant use the rear ladder with this build. You'll need to place 2 lengths of rope ladders somewhere on the ship if you want to reboard your ship. I know because I had to craft a raft to fetch my boat

Fire an even quicker way to dodge cannon balls is if you have your sail at full mass and turn from with wind to against wind you stop almost instantly...it’s quicker than raising and dropping sails even with max points.

Nice sloop build. Have you thought about adding x2 large cannons instead on the back? You outrun and outgun ghost ships. I've done a schooner build with 4 large cannons and I may take 1 hit. works on any ghost ship.

When I start out I always tame a "pack" of boars, cows, and sheep. 4-5 of those on "Attack my Target" will handle most predators and are easily replaceable. Cows also do a good bit of damage and have good health and weight for how easy they are to tame

Great beginners video. I started with a similar build except on a Brig with a dozen cannons. Kiting is so easy. I started aggroing 2, 3, 4+ ships of the damn as I went. Was a long sotd train. Plus they were all levels 40, 50, 60. It wasnt until I aggroed the Red lvl 174 that things got ugly fast. Ha ha 😆👍

So, you've got to jump to get past that ship's steering wheel and mast, right? Also, seems like both the built-in rope ladder... and whatever ones you might attach... are going to be useless, because you'll keep running into the angled structures? (Haven't tested add-on ladders yet, but the default one at the rear won't work.) Just have to use grapples, I guess.

I'd love to see you build a schooner as a mix between a houseboat (like you did with the sloop) and the farm-any-SotD capabilities. For PVE servers I love the schooners since they're big enough to haul some cargo with, relatively fast (with a big and a small speed sail), cost-efficient to build (hey, I'm Dutch okay), and that way you could have a sort of a sailing FOB (I saw you googled that one earleir :) ).

I fought a lvl1 pirate ship, with a similar sloop build, did NO dmg..i mean yes i did damage you see the numbers flying up but their health bar DID not move, it was crazy. Are the damned easier to sink than pirates? so far they seem to be VERY easy

The pirate ships aren't invincible, the health bar is just their sinkage amount, so damage done to the ships planks are not reflected into the health bar, once it starts sinking it will start to go down so just keep making holes! Hope this helped

You can do this on official no problem. Bet you had the planks on before you tried building it, e.g you cant do this with a sloop bought from a Freeport. If your ship is already in the water you will also have collision problems. You need to do all of this in the shipyard before you even place the planks on a ships frame.

They only snap sideways to gunports, If placed on a deck (without a gunport) or ceiling you can face them in any direction.

Just finished it. It floats. Weight is good. The only problem I had was the ships wheel wouldn’t snap where it does in this video but with a little finesse I was able to get it placed

1. make a schooner, this is kinda dumb 2. don't raise/lower your sails to adjust speed when kiting, you can turn the sail out of the wind and into the wind, it stop/starts the boat quicker cause you can turn a speed sail faster than raise/lower. getgud.

By investing brain before departure, and add a ladder. Also put grappling hook into your box - never go to sea w/o the abilty to fish the boxes out of the water.

just built this in single player, worked fine; only complication was the wheel placement, but it went under the front shields just fine. i'll try it later on official

@@boundedscythe7726 nope I tired, got the ramshackle sloop, took away the ceilings it starts with and you cant place the half walls at the bottom.. BUT if you keep the ceilings it gives on the deck, place a full wall at the front or back, facing forward/backward, not the sides, you can place a ceiling on the top so its going through one of the sail posts, add roofs to that, so they go over the sides of the boat and.. you can then demolish the wall and the ceiling/roofs will stay put and give you cover and you still have all the space on the sloop and its a seemingly 'floating' roof, use the triangle corner roof to continue the roofs around the front and back of the ship, but only use the half stairs over the emergency ladder so its still usable...at this point the sloop should be completely covered so your only access will be to use a ceiling door with a ladder inside the sloop so you can also leave through it....this build is good but slightly inconvenient as you can only use orbit camera to see where you're going, since 3rd person is blocked by ceilings, but its still easy enough to sail as you can steer while in orbit...you will just need to switch between orbit and first person to see the UI like wind direction though... I hope this makes sense haha its a fairly simple build, if it doesn't make complete sense you should be able to figure it out, it will just be 1 full wall to pin the ceilings to a sail post,(you can demo this wall when the ceilings are over the boat) 3 ceilings, roofs on the sides, roof over the front, corner roofs connecting them, and half stairs at the back so you can climb onto the roof from the ladder, and use the ceiling door to get inside/out
