The "problem" with games where the protagonist has a distinct personality is that they sometimes do things you don't want them to. Either in cut scenes or by leaving you with no good options, you are sometimes forced to watch your protagonist, the character that you've been controlling, make a decision that you would never make for them. This is especially frustrating in RPGs, where you control so much about the character, but when it comes to certain decisions, the dialogue tree is missing the one option that you want, and you're forced to do something else.

So happy you did a video on Firewatch! I think you nailed why I loved it so much, playing a fleshed out character made the game so much more immersive for me. Had no idea Campo Santo was made up of TellTale guys either! Awesome as always :)

In my TWD playthrough I didn't have that same desire to know the characters backstory to extent of it affecting my in-game decisions. I was more focused on what was happening now at that moment. More focused about surviving, dealing with the issues the game presents us with. More focused on clementine and the responsibility of protecting her from both physical and emotional damage. I'm curious as to whether most peoples playthroughs tend to lean towards either one of our experiences, or if it's more random than that.

Shouting "THE WITCHEER!!" throughout the whole video. The first game starts with an amnesiac Geralt whose backstory (7 books worth of it) you may or may not be familiar with and then proceeds to let you roleplay the character in a way that hardly ever feels in contradiction with his past, but still leading to very different outcomes. The games brim with refferences to the books for the readers to enjoy. Yes, but newcomers still get all the information needed to understand the plot and it's charaters.

A video that has actual content that is to be expected from the video creator in question? Is it April second already?

I was about to say "the protagonist doesn't talk," but, yeah, amnesia is probably more ubiquitous.

Well that's what I want to do now. I want to produce that kind of content about video games too. I actually wrote about Firewatch, and the notion of choice in video games and how player choice affects the outcome of a game (with comparisons coming from Oxenfree, The Stanley Parable and Life is Strange), and after seeing this, I think it would probably be nice to do a video talking about it.
