IMO, this is one of the most underrated gaming videos in KZbin! Amazing job! I've been looking for more videos talking about my favorite aspect of game design: game feel!

This video convinced me to follow you on Twitter! I'd also like to add that in Sly Cooper 3 there's a move to sneak up on an enemy before dispatching them, and the plucks of guitar strings are timed to the steps of the main character. I think it counts as a game feel moment by building a palpable sense of anticipation. Also, I just want to say the number of factors involved in the web mechanic of Spider-Man 2 makes it one of the most satisfying experiences of play ever (imho). I used to do nothing but jump of buildings and swing for hours when I was a kid.

+Christopher Batson Ditto, Spider-Man 2 is one of my favorite games of all time just because of how fun it is to swing around NYC.

I absolutely love the amount of personality that went into this video! Your earlier work is a bit more dry and educational, it's great to see some more lighthearted stuff. Also, is this like Cagey Month or something? You're definitely on a roll with uploads recently. Keep up the great work!

Number 1 reminds me of the sublime sound of picking up lots of items in Minecraft. It's like you're just slurping all the items up.

Same here. I think that I spent more time playing that game just for the bubble sound than for the core gameplay (I exagerate, but god, isn't it pleasing)

wish i could like this video twice. great examples of good gameplay moments in otherwise bad games (often overlooked examples), and good presentation. thanks for the laugh at the end! good stuff

One of my favourite ones is when you make a weapon transition attack in bloodborne. You hear the metallic sound and a spark, then the hit sound followed by a gushing of blood. Hmmmm.

One of my personal favorites is in the Batman Arkham games, when you do the Cape Stun, and then mash the attack button for that jab combo, it always feels so satisfying.

Pulling off a Zandatsu in Metal Gear Rising feels AMAZING. There's little else in games that is more satisfying. Platinum's games are full of this kind of stuff of course, like Witch Time or Wicked Weaves from Bayonetta. Kind of similar to Bayonetta is the dodge/counter attack from Killer is Dead. Feels really good to pull that off, as well as how your attacks change as your combo goes up. It's a real nice build-up. The No More Heroes games have some nice feel to them as well. And there's a thing all these games have, that most Japanese action games have in general, that I really like too. They have a distinctive sound design when it comes to sword attacks or the like. You hear it a lot on anime and stuff as well, and it's that "sharp squelch" that they always use. I really like that. It's especially good in Muramasa. Another one that I like which is similar to your #1 is Minecraft. Basically any sound in that game from breaking or placing blocks feels great. I'm not the biggest fan of the game itself, and I haven't played it in years, but I've always loved that sound design. I might as well mention the recent-ish Killer Instinct too. I'm totally useless at fighting games, so I've hardly played the game itself, but dang if it doesn't have the most amazing audio design. Visual effects are great too, which make the feeling of landing a hit so satisfying. Oh, and Darksiders. Darksiders 2 especially. The combat in those games feels like something of a cross between God of War and Devil May Cry, and it has audio design that's somewhere in the middle too. They sound very distinct, and it has a great feel to it as well. I could go on, but I think that'll do for now.

One game feel moment that I loved was the second that I picked up smash bros for wii u and heard the new sound effects used for marth's attacks. It's comparable to the sound of wolverine's claws expanding, it just gives everything an awesome feeling. You can dub that sound effect to Hello Kitty and it would still make it awesome.

You can also do the roll/dodge jump in Jak & Daxter and if I remember correctly you can use it to hit enemies. Parrying and riposte in Demon's/Dark Soul; Surfing from one power line to another in inFAMOUS... There's even a stunt that requires you to do that.

Oh there's also a great one in halo 5 when you get a headshot you hear the pop click sound, and just before that you see the opponents shield burst. So satisfying.

Very interesting collection, I think that shouting "Fus Ro Dah!" in Skyrim is a really great game feel moment for me. It's always satisfying, and because you don't get it all at once, the full shout is all the more satisfying.

@darkxarth8 жыл бұрын
+Kalernor Same here! I will still drag out my GameCube and boot up Spider-Man 2 just to swing around New York. And the incremental increases in speed as you progress are satisfying. And, of course, almost nothing is as good as pulling off the slingshot move once you unlock it.

Props for mentioning Hulk Ultimate Destruction. That game is amazing and I've not since played a game that conveys the sense of raw physical power in as satisfying a way. Must admit I was disappointed Spiderman 2 (Xbox/PS2) swing physics wasn't number 1. Spiderman Web of Shadows was close, and actually better at integrating combat into the movement, but Spiderman 2 has amazing swinging physics, such a pleasure to just roam the city.

For me, it's a tie between the shield-bash sound from expeditions:conquistador, the 'hungry sword' track that plays on Medieval total war 2: Teutonic campaign whenever you start a fight, or... SpongeBob Squarepants battle for bikini bottom's crate-smash sound. I can't really tell you why, but that was the best part of that game.
