Eight months ago I had a dream.. I owned a 2013 Honda accord and a chainsaw... in that short period of time I built up my business from zero to over 2000 bundles of wood.. and numerous amounts of cords sold and delivered.. It made it possible to purchase a splitter., newer truck, a dump trailer and 5 acres of land so I can expand my dream.. The best part is is that I can step back and look.. holy shit im doing it!!! Thanks Joe for the inspiration to follow my dream and all the great ideas I borrowed from you..

Good morning Joe!!😀😀 I was doing a little math and your bundles are not 3/4 of cubic foot of wood unless the wood is 12 inches long. At 16 inches long they are right at 1 cubic foot of wood. So you will never get in trouble with the state weights and measures office. Take care my friend!!😀😀 Logger Al

Hi Joe. First of all I changed my youtube name, since I also loaded up some videos and I wanted my real name getting included. So my first name is Kai. Okay, you had a busy day and now you are standing in the evening in your garage, making firewood bundles, while I guess your family has also not always time to help you. Is there a plan, for instance, getting a helper for a few hours a week or change processes to a more automatized way? Like not stacking the wood anymore by hand and store it in big "cages", moved by a forklift or so?
@ohiowoodburner3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Kai. I am committed to efficiency so everything I do is up for review and certainly my volume will dictate how I go forward. I do have a couple helpers that come around. Both my daughters help and my wife does the paper work. Posch makes a neat system for storing wood but I'm not sure yet if this is the way for me to go. I don't think I can physically keep it up for years so more machines are in my future if I keep this going. Joe

Joe have you calculated how many cords you sell a year?
@ohiowoodburner3 жыл бұрын
My business model is build around 200 cords. I didn't make that last year bc of my responsiblities with my dad. I had my hands full with him and couldn't get to the wood. This year the COVID has killed my restaurant buisness so I am most likely not going to get to that point again. 200 cords sounds like a lot for some and sounds like a little for others. The key is your margin. I made $800 on two deliveries this week. Fear not! I will keep at it. Joe
@coreym50723 жыл бұрын
Keep it up Joe. I’m doing 250-300 and that’s a lot for a one man operating. I couldn’t imagine doing 1000 cords. Still waiting on my super splitter. Been 7 weeks since I ordered it

Are there any regulations when distributing firewood?
@ohiowoodburner3 жыл бұрын
Hi Leonard. In the USA it depends on your state and municipality. In Ohio you have to follow the rules on quantities. Here is a link to the Ohio rules agri.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/oda/divisions/weights-and-measures/news-and-events/firewood-tips To cross state lines the wood must be USDA certified, which means heat treated/kiln dried to kill invasive species.
