You’re not paying $10 for BBQ chips. Your paying for convenience for a once in a while family gathering smoke in that will continue until the Dad realizes he can do himself with his pocket knife.

Very nice fast compact machine, me personally don’t mind not having the log lift, however that tiny 4 way wedge is useless, if they could get the wings bigger for those wider logs it would turn this thing to another beast, also don’t like the sizes of the splits with the 4 way… still too thick for the type of wood I’d have to make. Everything else seems great.

Push-to-fit connections need the end of the tube to be clean with a very square cut. They also aren’t meant to be used to remove the tub repeatedly. The tube will wear down from the teeth in the fitting

Is there a big difference in size from shred from a splitter to a chipper? I get a lot of byproduct from my splitter that looks pretty close depending on what I’m splitting. I know that sounds off but the smaller log I split the more condensed and square the shred is. The longer the piece the thinner, stringier it is but they both look close as long as I split oaks , hickory, cherry… any thought would be appreciated Joe!

How much is antifreeze? Ten a gallon? I wouldn’t be surprised if you had propane in the ac. When I was in Iraq we took a low mileage car with no air in for repair to a Baghdad mechanic. The car came back with working air… but the mechanic harvested a few partsand replaced them with end of life but working parts. He robbed the alternator belts and battery for starters.

My Dad had this issue on a 1957 Chevy oil crossover line. He used copper, but the vibration of the engine would fatigue and break the line off right where it went into the fitting. The solution was longer tubing to coil up a spot just before the fitting. One or two loops of the tubing would absorb vibrations and hot cold xycles, and the lines never broke or leaked after that. It looks like 3/8 Pex A tubing they are using. It is the best material in the 21st century plastic stuff. If it coils naturally about a one foot circle, just have two loops, lightly zip tied together and lightly zip tied onto the machine somewhere for support. That will help absorb pressure surges, vibration flexing, and hot/cold expansion. There is a difference between Pex A (good) and Pex B inferior. Uponor Pex A.

Didn't you have this same problem on your last Japa? I would obtain a list of parts that Japa commonly sells to owners. Every machine I have ever known needs maintenance. I would replace the fitting and make sure I always had two replacement parts in stock. I would also ask Japa if they could supply a barbed fitting like the one next to it.

It's the cold weather trying to push cold oil till it warms up putting excess wear on it. I believe you put a heater pad on it didn't you?? Even with that it's got to circulate the cold oil out the lines plus pushing that past the bb restriction as well till it warms. Probably be a good idea to just run hydraulic oil at least during cold months in it. Some processors chain oil just runs of the hydrolic oil tank. They make a bio friendly hydraulic oil that basically soybean oil which is added value to the folks that smoke who think it might not be safe to use petroleum based oil...

That Tube is shrinking in the Cold Joe..... Change it to a ferrule type Brass compression fitting. and forget about it. The opening should be small enough to hold the Spring in place. OR is that a METRIC fitting used on 3/8ths SAE Tubing Not the Threads the Tube opening.??? Now I need to Stoke the OWB, Later.... Mike M. Central WI.

there usually a insert that goes in the end of the hose before the hose goes into the fitting. this supports the end of the hose so the fitting can get a firm bite. make sure you have the proper hose rated for that specific model or style of fitting.
@ohiowoodburner
@ohiowoodburner 3 күн бұрын
That has been, IMO, my prob the whole time. The hose has to be PERFECT for this to work. This replacement hose came direct from the factory bc nothing I could source in the states would work

Those push-fit connectors are usually pretty reliable, but they don't like much movement of the hard plastic pipe. I'm wondering if when the saw is moving through its stroke, perhaps the plastic pipe is being twisted along its length just a bit? That might eventually cause the little grippers in the connector to fatigue and fail. This may be an explanation for the failure inside the connector. The mangled spring is a bit of a puzzle. It's very light weight, and the hole into the connector isn't an awful lot smaller than the spring, so I'm wondering if maybe the tail of the spring popped into the hole and thousands of repeated compressions just kept forcing more and more of it into the connector? A suitably sized washer (with a smaller hole in it) between the connector and spring might be a fix, without reducing oil flow too much. A top-hat sleeve inside the spring would be ideal, if such a thing can be found.
@ohiowoodburner
@ohiowoodburner 3 күн бұрын
Interesting thought Mel. I need to do a deep study on this and see how much movement there is with the line during operation. I also agree there should be a washer/shim etc that sits on the end of the fitting so the spring can't get pushed into it

I seem to recall that there is winter and summer bar oil... Are you using the thinner winter oil that will flow easy? In working with pushloc type fittings for years I do know that some are sensitive to the tubing being used. So if you can get fittings and tubing from the same brand you will stand a better chance of success. Also make sure that the bar end of the oilier is not restricted/plugged causing an over pressuring of the system. Also some brands of those fittings have an insert that goes into the tube making it ridged inside the fitting. All little details that get overlooked but cause problems. I'm suspecting that whoever is providing you the parts is getting generic parts and not necessarily spec'ed for each other, fractional tubing metric fitting? lg

Interesting Larry. You are the second to mention the insert. I need to look into that. Hmm... Nice post btw. Thanks buddy

Yes Joe Failiure on a Machine is not Good. At least you have some new parts to put on it when it fails. My DR-Electric 5ton the Other Day went Down. I fixed the Switch (push button) the Plastic Piece, and Plastic Washers Broke. So a very Little Super Glue and Black Silicone Gasket Maker Worked Wonders. Next Day all Ready to Go better than when it was new. We have about 4inches of Snow on the Ground, and more on the way tomorrow. Hopefully getting a few pieces of Wood today. Stay Safe, Stay Warm.
