Chris, I agree broken toes are annoyingly painful. I had one as a teenager and it is crooked to this day. Had more than my share of broken bones. Spent a year and a half in body casts after being crushed between two cars and breaking my femurs. That was 50 surgeries ago and though now having my knees and hips replaced I still have limited bend in my knees. But I don’t let it get me down, I do more than most people I know. That accident was 49 years ago and I’m 72 yrs old now. Just keep after it, you are a worker.

I'm in North Florida and I've started using your bin method and it works great. My bins are only 7 pallets by 4 pallets but this is only my second year selling. I've already sold three times as much as last year.

Hi Chris Nice deliveries and bins look great. Hope your foot mends quickly. Ice packs for ten minutes, then hot packs for ten minutes will dialate the capillaries in the soft tissue. Might have to tape the break to a stable toe as a splint.

Nice delivery day video Chris. I can relate to a broken toe and 3AM pee calling. Another advantage of drying firewood in the wide open spaces/away from trees is not dealing with the leaves infestation in your wood piles. The leaves mat and don’t dry out and retain moisture causing mold. GNI
@InTheWoodyardКүн бұрын
Yes...very good point...leaves hold moisture a lot!

9 Pallets wide at approx. 4' width each (9X4=36 ft wide) 13 pallets long at approx. 4' in width each (13X4=52 ft long) estimated height is 10 ft. 36' width X 52' long = 1,872 sq. ft. X 10' in height = 18,720 sq. ft. / divided by 180 sq. ft. the number used to represent a thrown in or loose cord = 104 Cords of firewood is what this particular bin held. its all simple math, just put it at $375 a cord (I'm guessing 90 % was face cord sales) X 104 = 39k. I think he has it dialed in for his needs and conditions. Awesome job Chris! I believe he will need a new truck and a bigger trailer for moving the Benjamín's loads if he sells out.

I feel your pain Chris. I broke my big toe in 3 places right before Bunyan and it is still bothering me. When you break a toe you walk different on your foot so then all of those tendons and muscles start hurting especially if you are as dumb as me and don't stay off of it and let it heal correctly. Good video!

You're moving around pretty good for having a broken toe! Hopefully it's feeling better. Regarding hooking up a trailer, I saw a video from an RV youtuber a few weeks ago regarding hooking up the breakaway cable, he brought up a good point that the breakaway cable should be hooked up to something other than the hitch. In case of a full hitch failure, this still allows the breakaway cable to work, and the trailer breaks get applied. I never thought about that but it's something I'm going to start doing differently.

Yes, I heard that too...BUT there is no where else to hook it up to....so?

I made a pallet firewood bin, similar to the ones in your woodyard, here in England and so far I am not best pleased with the results as there is mould growing on the wood and insects living under the bark etc... The wood I keep under cover in the barn has very little mould and insects, I think the climate we have here in England is not ideal as we have plenty of rain and overcast days. The high humidity combined with mild temperatures through the winter, often between 0-10 celcius provides good conditions for wood to rot outside. I am curious if anyone else who watches your videos has experimented with the pallet bins in England... Maybe if I changed the location it would work significantly better.
@InTheWoodyardКүн бұрын
Sounds like you might have to covered the tops with a tarp and or get the wood in a more open area????
@bruceking5173Күн бұрын
absolutely couldn't do this in my northwest washington area. we get an average of 7' of rain (84") per year and any pile of wood I leave out never goes below 30%. If I put a cover on it it'll dry down to 20%. moisture measured by splitting the wood and testing the interior of the wood. the outside can read 10% with the middle at 30 or 40%, so split it and test to get an accurate reading.
@InTheWoodyardКүн бұрын
Wow, sounds like you need to move to a place that is not a rain forest!
@ColintheworldsgreatestplumberКүн бұрын
I'd like to see you test moisture content through out the drying process. How wet is it when it's split vs 1 month vs 6 months.
@tjhughes77403 сағат бұрын
I’ve always wondered if the wood dries faster in piles because it allows the moisture to escape through the end grain faster from gravity as opposed to to being stacked horizontally.

Convection is the word you are looking for with regards to your air flow through the bins. I stubbed my toe on the fireplace hearth. It is two inches higher then the floor and made from stone. Yeah, it hurt. But I did not break it. I started to wear Crocs around the house. They work great at keeping my toes safe. I hope your foot is feeling better by now. I also fell off the top of my log pile and broke a rib or two. Google said it takes 6 to 8 weeks to heel. And the Goog was right. So, this clumsy guy doesn't climb up on the log pile any longer. I pull the logs off the top with a chain or a peavey. Enjoy the Journey - Cheers

Sorry to hear about your toe! I would tell you to take it easy, but I know it won't do me any good! Lol last September, I was borrowing my uncle's husqvarna while my saw was in the shop, and that particular saw of his tends to idle high and turn the chain... Well, I was cutting the branches of a maple tree that I had just cut down, and was stepping over some high branches, and I sawed my left knee cap clean in half. I swear to you all, it never bled a single drop of blood. The cut is as wide as my 4 fingers put together, and was over an inch deep. The surgeon said it was a miracle, because nothing in my leg got messed up at all! He put a bunch of staples and stitches in me, and I was back out cutting within 3 days lol😅 it's hard to put the saw down once you pick it up! But I tell ya whhat, my knee was screaming at me while I was out there, for a good two weeks at least. I used a wedge cut out of a black gum to prop my foot up on in the truck while driving, cause I'm a short fella. Anyways, I hope your toe gets better soon buddy! Take it easy if ya can!

I crushed my little toe 20 years ago, and that was no fun. Had to get surgery to remove bone splinters and some skin and have it sutured shut. LMAO. Chris I have broke every bone in my body at least twice. I have had my Body in cat scans and I have had a few full body X-Rays. I have broke all the bones in both my hands more then 3 times. I had my right foot crushed and they said I would never walk again. get this I broke the ball of my heal and the Doctors could not believe it. Out of all the bones yes even my knees. the worst break is the ribs. Let me explain . You see breaking bones is one thing but when you break your ribs you just bought a life of pain when you least expect it. With broken ribs when you cough hard you feel like you just broke your ribs again. Sneeze and it is just like you broke your ribs again. You know how some times you feel the need to really stretch? Yep it feels like you just broke your ribs again. Now this never goes away. This will stay with you for the rest of your life. Worst news is the older you get the more it happens and the more pain you go through. When I was 24 I had to go through a full body X-Ray they X-rayed every inch of my body. That alone was not fun. Then they could not believe their eyes and made me go through a Full body scan. They had 4 Doctors and one guy said J C you broke every bone in your body but your head. Then another Doctor taps him on his shoulder and points and yes I busted my skull about 6 times lmao. They just could not understand how I was still walking. They had their doubts and made me go through all the X-Rays and scans again. The knees is painful pretty much all the time as well but the pain is always there no shock no surprise. But the ribs OMG When you re pop a rib you have to wait and hope it goes back in place. Some times I have to stand up and walk it off and no it does not help trying to push it back in place.

Wow....sounds like you might have very brittle bones....full body cast 24/7/365 maybe!!!

@@InTheWoodyard no not brittle just been really rough on my body. been run over 4 times hit by cars/trucks 6 times fell out of a tree at 60feet landed flat on my back was on a ladder working on a three story building and a little girl was running after her ball kicked the ladder and I came down. Dropped a 3/4 ton van on my foot been in 8 car crashes not one my fault Had a 5 bedroom house I was jacking up fall on me and pin me down but that didn't break any bones lmao just had a bump on my head. Was acting like a kid sliding down a steep hill and I was going real fast but just as i hit the bottom it was a sudden stop and I could hear the bones in my back crack and the people waiting at the bottom also heard it.. That took me a while to move and they wanted to call for an Ambulance and I told them know because we were at a place we were not allowed to be. I crawled home I could go on but you get the idea.

Stacking firewood in your truck for deliveries makes it look nice and neat and the customers know exactly are they are getting but some people don't care about that...🪵But you are right ... piled up firewood dries excellent! ...oh and by the way sorry about your toe! Hope it gets better soon!🦶
