Just built and stacked this for my first ever firewood build( I'm a city boy). This was so easy and works great! Holds a lot more wood than it looks. I made one mistake though. I was halfway full loading the wood when I realized I forgot to put a brick in the middle. The wood base was bending from the weight but I was able to move some dirt/brick around to fit the brick under it. So far so good! Thanks again!!

This. Is. PERFECT. I just moved to a house with a wood stove and a heat pump. The heat pump is NOT cheap for heating, so I need to get the wood heating program going. First thing I need is one or more racks for storing the wood. Some of the plans I see here on YT are done by a guy with a woodworking shop. I wanted something simple. This is it. Thanks.

I made a crib 11'x4'x3'...holds exactly a cord using scrap wood and about $25 in fasteners. Stands on treated 4x4 from an old deck and about 20 standard bricks. Pretty and can be disassembled into 2 sections in a minite and completely disassembled in under an hour. Uses 4 2x4' on each side, 2 1x4 rails plus 3 keystone pieces per side and 2 of those 1/2" sleeved 9" gutter nails per side as horizontal and vertical stays.

This is brilliant. And SO much better than the overpriced metal racks on that well-known website. Those things have thin metal legs that sink into the ground under the weight of the wood, requiring a good bit of ground preparation. And the "covers" they come with disintegrate in less than a year. (yes, i was that guy.)

I have used this approach for years. Only issue I've run into is vertical 2x4s act as levers and put pressure on the outside blocks to dig into the ground on the outside of the assembly. I'm taking it all apart before winter to level the outside blocks. I'm guessing I will have to do this every few years.

What about covering it on the sides for winter
@firewoodforlife2 жыл бұрын
You wouldn't want to cover up the entire stack, so the wood can breathe and not grow mold. However, a tarp to cover the top 1/3 of the stack works great to repel rain and snow while still letting the wood season.
