What seems surprising to me is how long the flash appears to run for. It finally makes all those editing effects look more realistic to me.

These indeed burn for far longer than a xenon flash - one of a few advantages these have.

Probably needed it for sync reasons maybe ?. Interesting find though !

A number of years ago, I found a package of bayonet-base flashbulbs & and one of those 70's-era high-intensity lamps (12v), at a thrift store. So, I stuck a flashbulb in the lamp & put it back on the shelf. Unfortunately, I couldn't stick around for the results!

My Father had a Polaroid Land camera with a flash attachment that took small bulbs like these. I remember they would tingle after the flash, and the smell. I think the glass would crack in hundreds of pieces but some plastic-like shell held it together.

As you were holding it and explaining through everything there were a few moments where you were moving your hand for emphasis and I was like.. eeeek don't tap it on the desk! ;) But, then you showed the specs and tested it and it seems to be so strong and well made.

Did you know? Photo flash is a lot older than you may think. Back in the Titanic era, the flash was done with a special powder that was ignited. That powder would, I don't want to say "explode", but make a big poof. That poof gave the bright flash. The camera operator would light the fuse and when the poof occurred, he then hit the camera shutter just as the poof was happening. And, you had to hit the camera shutter just right with the poof.

Hey girl, Loving your flags..... next ou might try a #22 bulb... bigger bulb, and larger flash....

♥np haha Wow that was bright! I didn't realize these were single use, 2 days ago I went to an estate sale and got a cartridge of 8 tiny ones that plugs in to certain cameras, only 2 of them are used and the tiny tubes are so cute. The GE 600 flash bar. Love that that uses a regular light bulb envelope though. I appreciate that you sacrificed the bulb for content lol.

I liked that outro "recap" it was a nice touch. Are you interested at all in film photography?
@themaritimegirl3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have two cameras and a film scanner. I have all the equipment needed to develop my own film, but when I tried it once it went so badly that I'm not going to do it again. I'll find a place to send exposed rolls off to.

Im researching these devices for self-defense purposes. It is a good thing you didn't look directly at this bulb. Im personally investing in the no. 50 GE photoflash.
@themaritimegirl6 ай бұрын
I'm not sure how you expect a flashbulb to defend you. The whole point is to look directly at the bulb lol

Cool! I’d keep it as is. Perfect 👍

I found 5 of these and want to burn one. Did you use 3 volts? What kind of batt?
@themaritimegirl6 ай бұрын
I used a 12V battery. A 9V might do the trick. Maybe even less.

I'm wondering what will happen if would screw in the bulb into incandescent socket 120 volts
@nixietubes3 жыл бұрын
Itd probably flash... lol

I wouldn't think it would work any differently. Might pop the circuit breaker when it fires, but that's it.

Be glad you didnt look into the bulb. That much brightness will damage your eyes.

Holding the bulb like that is kinda dangerous... you can ignite it with static electricity
