** I've been using my Canon EOS M50 camera for a few different projects since the firmware was upgraded to v1.1.0. The autofocus functionality seems to work well even with the focus point set to close to the edge of the image. I was really hoping that Canon would add a setting for truly clean HDMI output, but they have not. Using the Canon EOS Webcam Utility for livestreams is the current recommend way to get a clean video image, but the USB connection based video is still less sharp than the HDMI output from the camera when connected to a HDMI capture card. Here's a list of the video chapters available in this video: 00:00 - Intro 00:21 - Overview 02:16 - Format SD Card 03:22 - Download Firmware Update 03:54 - Copy Firmware Files to SD Card 06:28 - Upgrade Firmware 09:23 - Final Thoughts 09:53 - Outtakes

I'm glad you found the video helpful! I use the Oben QRA-R2 quick release assembly which includes the RP-20 plate that mounts to the device/accessory with a 1/4-20 mount screw. It's one of those things you need to decide what you want or like in a quick release device, because you need to buy a few of them to make it truly quick/easy to move the camera from one stand to another easily. He's my Amazon affiliate link to that Oben QRA-R2 amzn.to/3o07iEz Depending on how many cameras you have, you may just want to purchase the RP-20 plate itself to add a new camera to your devices that can mount to those quick release mounts. When I recently purchased a Canon M6 Mark II camera, I needed one more RP-20 plate for the new camera. Here's my Amazon affiliate link for just the RP-20 plate amzn.to/3tj4Biw

Here is my issue. The current Firmware version on the M50 is v1.0.0. The Canon Support website DOES NOT HAVE v1.0.1 firmware. It only shows v1.0.2, v1.0.3, and v1.1.0. So if these updates must be applied consecutively, where do you get v1.0.1 from? Is it possible to go from 1.0.0 to 1.0.3 since the conversation with NeonRyse points out that you must first be on v1.0.3 to go to 1.1.0? Where does v1.0.2 fall in this picture. So far all of the videos that I have watched started out at 1.0.1 (not available) and some only go to v1.0.3. It is not a particularly good practice to put out updates that are dependent upon each other rather than completely replacing the firmware altogether. Canon also does not say anything about dependencies, they only say that it is good for versions below the one you are updating to. Thanks for the help!

I can't exactly remember if my M50 had 1.0.2 or 1.0.1 when I first purchased it. I examined my file downloads and found that I have 1.0.2, 1.0.3 and 1.1.0 firmware download files. So, I can't state with certainty that you can directly upgrade or not. I can only suggest contacting Canon to see if their support group can answer that question.

@@RetroCarGuy530 Thank you. I did pose the question to the CanonCommunity and just got mixed replies from a few people out there. One person was on 1.0.1 and went directly to 1.1.0, the other pointed out that. in the documentation on line regarding 1.1.0, that Canon included some; but, not all of the firmware changes made with 1.01, 1.02, and 1.03. It leaves me with the same question about the firmware updates on the EF-M IS STM lenses as well. It looks like there are only two updates for different lenses though and my M50 indicates they are up to date. It would be nice if Canon would definitively and explicitly indicate either consecutive firmware updates should be done or it is safe to skip updates. How hard would that be? Thanks for the response though. Much appreciated.

Can you please make a video on what is updated ? Does it support eye detection or clean HDMI like Mark II now ? or the same.. nothing changed ?
@RetroCarGuy530
@RetroCarGuy530 3 жыл бұрын
I briefly mention the changes in the first part of the video and I show them on the canon website at the 3:34 mark. The fixes are somewhat minor in nature. It appears Canon is not changing the M50 firmware to have clean HDMI output when the M50 Mark II has the feature. It would seem that a firmware change could make that happen, but Canon would rather have you buy the Mark II. I was really hoping for clean HDMI on the M50 as well. Firmware Version 1.1.0 incorporates the following enhancement and fixes: 1. Enables NFC connection with smartphones running Android 10 operating system. *For Android running v6.0 or later, use Camera Connect v2.7.10 or later. *For Android running v5.0 or older, use a connection method other than NFC. 2. Fixes a phenomenon where, in rare cases, the camera may not autofocus at the edges of the image area. 3. Fixes a phenomenon in which, when using a Web service, if a camera is registered that is the same model as a camera that had already been previously registered, the registration data of the previously registered camera is overwritten. 4. Fixes a phenomenon in which, with [Display settings: Manual/Screen] set, when the camera’s LCD screen is closed, after connecting to EOS Utility, the Remote Live View window is not displayed correctly in some cases.

Hi, nothing related to the firmware updated. I have M50 Mark II recently but unable to connect it with my smartphone. I followed the instructions given by Canon, but when I was trying to connect via wifi, my camera stayed on “searching access points” forever not like in any of the vdo shown youtube that the access point just pops up. Do you know what is the cause? Thank You so much 🙏🏻🙏🏻

For my M50 (not the M50 Mark II), I go to the wrench menu, "Wireless communication settings". In the "Wi-Fi settings" menu make sure you have "Wi-Fi" set to on. Then in "Wireless communication settings" / Wi-Fi function select "Connect to smartphone". Then "Register a device for connection". It prompts for iOS or Android smartphone type or "Do not display". I selected "Do not display". This is when the camera should briefly state "Search for access points" then it should present a "Waiting to connect" screen with the Wi-Fi info for that camera. On the smartphone go into the Canon Connect app. Select "Easy Connection Guide". Select "Connect a camera/camcorder for the first time". Enter the product name when prompted. It prompts you to select a connection type Bluetooth/Wi-Fi/NFC select Wi-Fi. Follow the prompts, but at some point you'll need to go to your phone's Wi-Fi settings page and select the SSID for the camera and then type in the password displayed on the camera screen and then return to the Canon Connect app on the smartphone. You'll need to confirm the smartphone connection on the camera side and once that is done, you should have a connected smartphone to the Canon camera.

Question? When I go to Canon, it tells me there is no new firmware for my OS. I do not have the older M50 I just purchased the M50 Mark II and the firmware is 1.0.0 My question is, the 1.1.0 also for the Mark II? Or will this some how hurt my camera if I install it?

The firmware for the M50 and the M50 Mark II are different. Currently, there is no firmware update available for the M50 Mark II. Please do not install the M50 firmware on the M50 Mark II. In this video's description section, I state this video and firmware are intended for the EOS M50 and not for the EOS M50 Mark II. I hope that answers your question.

Hello! may i ask your help? after extracting the file from the canon site I tried pasting it into the sd card but it says 'the disk is write-protected' 'remove the write-protection or use another disk.' do you have a workaround for this?
@RetroCarGuy530
@RetroCarGuy530 3 жыл бұрын
My first guess at what is going on with your situation is that the write-protect lock switch on the left side near the top edge (with the label facing you) of the SD card. Make sure it is in the full up/top position. You may have accidentally moved the lock switch when handling the SD card.

I just checked the Canon website and 1.1.0 is still the latest firmware available for the EOS M50 camera. The EOS M50 Mark II has a different firmware from this camera. You cannot use the EOS M50 Mark II firmware with the EOS M50 camera. Firmware Version 1.1.0 incorporates the following fixes and enhancements: 1. Enables NFC connection with smartphones running Android 10 operating system. • For Android running v6.0 or later, use Camera Connect v2.7.10 or later. • For Android running v5.0 or older, use a connection method other than NFC. Firmware Version 1.1.0 is for cameras with firmware up to Version 1.0.3. If the camera's firmware is already Version 1.1.0, it is not necessary to update the firmware.

First make sure you have the firmware for the correct model of camera. This video is for the Canon EOS M50, not the Mark II version. The first generation Canon EOS M50 firmware upgrade files will two files to copy a CCF19.DAT and a CCF19xxx.FIR file. The Canon EOS M50 Mark II has a single filename with a naming pattern of CCF27xxx.FIR. From the PDF file instructions, it states you must copy the files to the SD card in a particular order after formatting the SD card: "Make sure to first copy the CCF19.DAT file to the root directory of the SD card, and then copy the CCF19xxx.FIR file." The Canon EOS M50 (first gen) camera appears to have the following firmware versions: 1.0.1, 1.0.2, 1.0.3 and 1.1.0. I hope something in this reply helps!

Can I do it for my m50 with version 1.0.0?
@RetroCarGuy530
@RetroCarGuy530 Жыл бұрын
I believe you can go directly from v1.0.0 to v1.1.0 for the Canon EOS M50 (original version). The Canon EOS M50 Mark II has a different firmware version file series for that camera and they cannot be intermixed. The v1.1.0 firmware update instructions state: This firmware update is for cameras equipped with firmware up to Version 1.0.3. If the camera's firmware is already Version 1.1.0, this update is unnecessary. When updating the firmware of your camera, please first review the instructions thoroughly.

Hi today I noticed my Canon M50 has a recording limit of 29 minutes and won't continuously record and split them up into a few separate files. Do you know what I can do?
@RetroCarGuy530
@RetroCarGuy530 3 жыл бұрын
This is a limit built into many DSLR and mirrorless cameras. There's nothing in the M50 settings to allow you to change a setting to get around this limit. The only approach that "works around" this is to not actually record on the camera but capture the HDMI output or use the Canon EOS Webcam utility to allow the M50 to act as a virtual webcam and have the software on the computer that captures the video/audio from the camera to be thing that records longer than 30 minute videos. Here's one video that explains the 29min 59sec limit for DSLR/Mirrorless cameras. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2exaIGldq-ip9E

I just checked my Canon M50 (original not the Mark II) with firmware v1.1.0 and it still has the setup (wrench) menu group page 5. The upgrade PDF instructions also state - Select "Firmware Ver.x.x.x" at the bottom of "Set-up 5 (Yellow), and then press the button. I'm not sure why you're not finding it in that location but I would suggest looking in the other screen/pages looking for the "Firmware Ver.x.x.x" selection as the instructions mention.
