Atarheel Champ They were American Thunder 40 series and the x pipe brand is unknown there are no manufacturers part number or name on it

I definitely prefer the Borla setup. The flows sound great too but it sound as though someone turned the treble up a little too high for my taste, which makes it sound a bit hollow. That Borla setup on the other hand sounds deeper, bolder, cleaner, muscular and smooth, how a muscle car should sound. I was never a fan of removing the catts, it just makes it sound raspy, tinny like the exhaust system is rattling, but that's what folks love. Seems as though folks pick loudness over sound quality. This is one of if not the best comparison I've ever seen. Thanks for providing this video of what a Terminator could and should sound like. Excellent job 👍

It was thing first thing I changed, I think they sound decent on 80’s / 90’s push rods but not on modular 4.6’s but that’s just me

One of the best features of the Terminator Cobra is that it reacts strongly to any modifications you do to it. My first Terminator had the Borla Stinger setup too and I loved the sound...deep and mean as hell, even without headers.

tominator I’m debating even doing long tube headers depending on what power level the Gen3R’s are putting out. I love how it sounds now and while I know it will sound even better with them I can also live without them too lol

I'd have to say I like the S-type set up better. I have an 03' termi with 21K miles and the full Bassani exhaust. Starting with Bassani Mid-length headers, bassani cat-less x-pipe and Bassani mufflers. It sounds great on WOT but when idling its not loud enough, actually pretty quiet. My neighbor has a stock ZL1 and her exhaust sounds better than and louder than mine when idling. I had the Bassani performance catted-x-pipe and it was just Okay. Definitely woke it up a bit when I ditched the catted x for the $400 catless X. Our Bassani mufflers out back are wayyyy wayyy too restrictive. Im probably going to get Ataks this spring and ditch the Bassani mufflers altogether. Once you get Headers, you'll be amazed on how it sounds.

@@Lethal_Venom What headers do you have..? We're "supposed to have cats" here in Mass as well. But as long as your car isn't crazy loud you'll be fine. Maine must be pretty strict. Honestly, the cats that come on the Bassani performance x-pipe are like the size of a 16oz beer can and I don't really think they do too much. I biggest difference I noticed when ditching the cats for cat-less was the pops when down shifting, they def got louder.

Car Mob I love the sound of non chambered mufflers on modular engines. Flowmaster sounds great on the push rod 5.0’s but that’s just me. If we all liked the same thing our cars would be boring lol

Flowmasters are 1 step better than factory. My red and blue mach 1's had them and my 98 Cobra. I switched to SLP on the mach 1's and I really feel like straight through mufflers like Borla SLP, and magnaflow magnapacks really let out the wonderful sound the 4.6L can make. Chambered mufflers choke them out and flowmasters especially sound like a 50 gallon drum. you made the right choice. I really enjoy watching your videos and appreciate our friendship that has become very good over the last couple years. Those drivebys sounded great.

Justin SVT thanks Justin I’ve always enjoyed what you have done with your channel as well since I started watching it. I like the Borlas so much more there’s no comparison. The drive bys were tough finding a good spot. I don’t live in a densely populated area but still tough finding spots without any houses close by where I’m pissing people off going by a few times lol. The area I used for the Borlas worked out well though

After watching this video, I’m fixing to drive mine around lol. Them flows don’t sound bad, personally love the sound on the fox body and the 94-98 mustangs. IMO nothing beats an Bassani O/R X and Borla Stingers I’m a so jealous of your paint. It looks immaculate!

That’s what’s so great about exhaust is we all like different set ups and no one is wrong for liking something different from someone else. Overall the paint is in really nice shape, needs paint correction but that’s something thing to tackle next spring. There are a few issues with the paint in one spot but that’s something I’m covering in a later video.

I'm more of an hpipe guy but I do agree on the stingers. The thing is stingers perform much better than the flows although the flows sound pretty good. They're pretty restrictive compared to stingers or magnapacks or one of the straight through style mufflers. Mm&ff did a muffler shootout back in the day and Flowmaster was one of, if not the worst, performing ones they tested. Borla and magnaflow were at the top performance wise and so was Mac. The Mac mufflers are a great option for a similar sound to Flowmaster but higher flowing.

I think Flowmaster sound better than any other mufflers but you definitely need a good x pipe with them to be right.

When it comes to catback I think it all depends on what the engine is too. Some sound better than others. I agree the mid pipe has a lot to do with it as well. I’ve never been a fan of off road pipes on any setup. Just too raspy for my taste. Another reason is that I really wanted a polished exhaust system and I couldn’t get that with keeping the flowmasters

Flowmaster sounds good but it's among the worst performance wise. A good option for performance and sound is Mac they sound similar to Flowmaster but are among the best performing systems. Along with magnaflow and borla. Mm&ff did a muffler test years ago and Flowmaster was among the worst performance wise.

Mac sounds great and performs among the best. Flows among the worst. Borla and magnaflow also performed near the top. Mm&ff did a muffler test long long time ago can't remember what vehicle it was on.

I like the Flowmaster with the offroad x sounded classic muscle car tone. Nice and beefy and now I want to put an offroad x with my flowmaster catback on my 01 cobra hahaha. But borla sounds great too!! Really nice comparison.

I bet putting a o/r x would make it sound better/louder. Flows have a nice sound so you can go wrong with leaving them on. If I had a vote I’d say the bassani x and the stinger.

Both sound great... I'm partial to the flowmaster sound just has a good back burble sound to it. The Borla is a deeper note that sounds great two.

Thanks! The wheels are FR500 replicas 18x9 front 18x10.5 rear. The most recent set of tires on it were Nitto G2’s 275 width and MT ET Streets in the rear in 305’s

Chambered mufflers project almost a mono reverb to them. Not a very clean image but those catted straight through sound super In your face and you can totally hear them bouncing off the trees and stuff it sounds great! Volume isnt everything!

I've had mac, borla stingers, and currently magnflow mufflers. All with Mac LTs and bbk o/r x pipe. If it wasn't for the fact that you can't polish the mac mufflers like you can stingers I would have gone back to mac. They sounded great without any rasp. I wanted my car to sound like your set up but I didn't want the hp loss or the possible hassle of dealing with cats. The stingers sounded way too loud and accelerating from a stop people next to me thought I was trying to race. In hindsight I probably should have just switched out my o/r x pipe for an o/r h pipe and kept the stingers.... that would have tamed it down a bit and given it a deeper tone like with a catted x pipe

The power difference between cats and no cats is not even noticeable. I think its a myth that has continued over the years. With the mods I'll have on the car for the day I get it dyno tuned I highly doubt its going to pull any less than where it should be at power wise. I love the fact you can polish the borla system, it looks so damn good on the car now.

Orh and stingers is the best combo out there. Super deep without any rasp sounds wicked. I have that setup on my 07 gt500 which has a similar sound to terminators same firing order. The only thing that really makes them sound little different is the muffler after the axle setup. It does sound different because of that but not a huge difference. My gt500 sounds amazing. I have an exhaust video on my channel.

This is the exact set up I’m planning for mine until I get kooks headers then ima switch the bassani to a kooks x pipe but putting headers on these cars seems like a hassle I don’t feel like dealing with atm😂

Headers are a massive headache. I did them on jack stands in my garage on my 94 Cobra and I'll never do that again. Really do need a lift. I have a few options I can use when it comes to needing a lift when the time comes to do the long tubes.

It hasn’t really changed a lot, all mufflers will break in over time but I do not think it got significantly louder

Excellent video sir. When I first heard the flow masters on your car I thought that’s gonna be a tough one! But the new system deff sounds a little better I think! Little smoother and deeper. What do you run for headers? I know we have resonators under there. I was told mine were “gutted”. I’m actually looking to change from bassani mufflers to “s type”.

The headers are stock as of now so that's how it sounds with Borla Stingers and a Bassani Catted X pipe. It sounds so good in person video does not do it justice

Great video! I've got a few questions on the factory H pipe with ceramic cats vs the Bassani with the high flow metallic cats. Will the ceramic cats hold up to a ported Eaton or will they tend to melt? Also how much louder are the Bassani cats vs stock? I like quieter exhaust and recently picked up a 10k mile Mach 1 factory H pipe so trying to determine how long it might last with 15psi of boost. Thanks!

As far as the ceramic holding up I’m not 100% sure on that but I have not heard anything regarding any problems with it. Most people tend to swap to a different mid pipe pretty quick on these. Having the cats does quiet it down some and definitely has a more throaty deep sound than the stock cats but it’s not as loud as going to a catless mid pipe from what I’ve heard.

I'm running a 2.76 also and used a canned SCT tune. Boost is at 13 psi with the 2.76. I think I can squeeze out more by taking it to a shop to have dyno tuned. Be sure to use a shop that is familiar with tuning these Cobras.
