As far as the gas problem goes: They used to have rectal tubes that you could insert to allow the gas out. After my last laparoscopy, I almost DIED from the pain of gas trapped inside my body - it was HORRIBLE!! I’m going to ask about that on my list of questions. I KNOW they exist, because my (very outspoken) mom advocated until my father actually GOT one, and it relieved his pain immediately.

I just had surgery 10 days ago. Absolutely no pain. The only pain I experienced was where they pulled the excess stomache out. When the nerve blovk wore off it was really sore in that one spot. I have lost 16 pounds already!

I'm just under 350#, and just had my first appointment today. I went in feeling so intimidated, but the doc said these words to me: "I think this is going to change your life." 🥰 No more living in this bloated, achy, uncomfortable body. No more.wondering if I'm going to fall through the floor of my house, or being frustrated because the jacket I like isn't available in my size. I want this. So many hoops to jump through, big changes. I'm a chocoholic, fried foods, big portions, buffet loving, go big or go home guy. I have to learn a new way of eating. A new relationship with food, self-care, life. It's a lot, but my heart says I can do it. Because I want that new life. Glad I discovered you. 🥳

I had the gastric bypass surgery September 1 of this year. I wish I would have known the pain that I I was going to feel when I wake up. I spoke to people that had the sleeve didn’t feel that level of pain that I felt I guess gastric bypass the pain is a little different because they are rerouting your intestines. But I would never want to feel that pain again I stand up is the feel like my insides are going to fall out. Drinking water was the hardest thing I ever had to do the second day of surgery I felt like drinking those little sippy cups we’re like drinking a glass of water I couldn’t get it down but now I have lost 60 pounds I started out at 390 pounds I have my days where I Regret it but I’m happy that I have done it I’m not on a high blood pressure medication anymore I no longer have pain in my joints I was prediabetic now my blood sugar is normal it’s just the adjustment but the weird thing is that I don’t get hungry my stomach don’t growl I know when I need to eat because I get a little lightheaded that’s when I know it’s time for me to eat and I don’t have a taste for anything sweet at all it’s a weird feeling but I like it it

I had my gastric bypass surgery 5 days ago. Ahhh the pain after i woke up was so bad, i was crying when i was wheeling back to my room. When i woke up few hours later the pain was a lot less and manageable after that

Just so uncomfortable and even till this day I have to take Pepcid every other day because of acid reflux which absolutely sucks. However I feel so much better about myself physically and mentally. I definitely had to learn how to accept the little wins. Haha. For the first month I only lost 5 pounds which was less than the 10pounds I had lost during my fasting before the surgery! Haha

Thank for sharing your bariatric story. On 1 Dec 22. I went through Roux En Y surgery. It was anything but routine because the doc said my previous lap band had caused a lot of scar tissue. When the new stomach was sectioned off, the surgeon didn't notice the pin hole, even with the testing that he had done. Woke up in severe pain and it took an x-ray to find internal bleeding where the pin hole was in my new pouch. Emergency surgery had to be done to close out the hole, and that's when I got pneumonia and my vitals started to fall. Now on life support, hooked up to no less than 3 IVs pumping me full of fluids, a feeding tube up my nose, and a catheter. I lost 7 days of my life while unconscious in the ICU. While I am eternally grateful that the doc saved my life, had I known then what I know now I wouldn't have bothered with the surgery. Like you atm, I'm constantly gagging, food is no longer enjoyed but looked at like a chore. I lost a lot of muscle mass and walking around is taxing. I'm hoping that with more healing time things will progress in a positive manner and I'll be in the same happy space that you are Erin. Cheers. 🥰🥰

Biggest thing to remember is if you return to old habits you will gain it all back. Change your life and your thinking while you have the chance. Use the first 12 months to get your life in order and you won’t look back. 5 years out, maintaining and no regain. My biggest fear is and will always be becoming obese again.

Angela Genwright If you dedicate yourself to healthy eating, exercise and lifestyle you will achieve all you hope for. My Dr is always happy to see me as he says only 5% of his patients stick to the plan and at 5 years out he counts me as one of his success stories. You can do it, anyone can but it takes continuous and intentional good choices.

I have not had the surgery yet. I’m waiting for a consultation at this point and just doing research so thank you for your video. I’m trying to decide between the sleeve or the bypass but I think I might be leaning towards the sleeve even though what I’m hearing is weight gain is more possible after the sleeve. My biggest fear is waking up during surgery. It happened to my mother when she had her tubes tied in the 70s. She almost died …& because I know this, the thought of surgery terrifies me. I have never gone under the knife.

Hi Colleen! Congrats on your surgery. I'm thinking of the bypass RNY I think it's called and with the U of MN in MPLS, but thinking instead of Mayo. Where did you go for surgery? Were they very good? Did you find the best place to go in the Metro for weight loss surgery? I don't know where the U of MN Gastroenterology stands with its rating. A gastro surgeon at U of MN said right away I needed gallbladder removal. There were several red flags that popped up. I made no waves and went to Mayo. They had a special HIDA scan done even though the surgeon was sure I didn't need gall bladder removal. Sure enough I'm not even close to needing it. U of MN was bought by Fair View a big company and I wonder. So I'm on my guard and willing to seek someone else in the Metro as it is hard for me with no car to get to Mayo.

Something for people to think about before having surgery in another country is post op complications. Make sure you have the money and resources to go back to your primary surgeon if needed. And I am not judging or telling anybody not to do it. I am lucky in that my insurance makes having weight loss surgery relatively inexpensive. However, I am an RN on a surgical floor and I have seen patients have complications with the surgery and because surgery was done in Mexico the surgeon here wouldn’t touch them. I believe they had worked out that they would do general post op care. One patient I took care of ended up with a feeding tube until she could come up with the resources to return to her surgeon. She was at our hospital for a month. Nobody in the area or even larger teaching hospitals would help her. Just something to think about. Not to have all negative. I found your channel this weight I am doing the 2 week liquid diet before my surgery. I love your channel and found it very inspirational and helpful. Keep up the good content.

Loved this video. I so appreciated that you had your surgery in Mexico and that the Dr and their staff did a wonderful job. You brought up great points about their professionalism in knowing their jobs and how there is not a huge turn over. Sometimes people in the US are advised about how it might be dangerous to go overseas for surgery, so I’m glad your experience was so positive. I understand that sometimes the experience in other countries when having surgeries are not the best. But there are many Dr’s and staff in other countries that do a great job.

@@glendareyes1074, a liquid diet, mostly. You’re trying to lose as much weight as possible to shrink your liver and kidneys, so it will be easier for the surgeon to work. Also get you ready for after surgery. You will not be eating anything after for weeks. So it really helps you to understand the importance of not eating. Also there will be a few test, ultrasound, scooping your insides, bloodwork. Basically two weeks beforehand, no more food. Lol.

I have mine on the 17th I don't feel like there is a team I don't have a bariatric team I saw a coordinator and I watch the film which I don't remember anything from that film cuz it was six months ago went to a dietitian with about 10 other people and don't remember anything that she said as far as I know we don't have a dietitian on our team because there is no team there's just coordinator and then there's the doctor that I got to see for maybe 15 minutes and all I remember him saying really is you need to just get up and move well I have and I will they sent me to physical therapy which I thought was strange of that bariatric doctor sending you to physical therapy but it was for surgery I had on my ankle which was weird cuz that was like 2 years ago and then when I was at Physical Therapy they said you want to join this this program we have here for weight loss so I'm assuming the bariatric doctor put me in physical therapy for my ankle to get me into this weight loss program so I sit down every Thursday with a girl that was a physical therapist technician they gave me a book that I paid for and we went over that that helped out a lot I lost 32 lb but now I'm a week out a week and a half out from my surgery I feel like the coordinator is so out of touch personality is like a piece of wood there is no personality I don't know if I have a dietitian that I turn to after I have surgery I don't know I know I go in for pre-op next week I had to ask what that was about abg's and blood work and x-rays X-rays of what I don't know she didn't tell me and I didn't ask her because I was thought it was strange for abg's usually they just do normal blood work before surgery complete blood count never had a blood gas before surgery but I guess that's their way of finding out I had to go to sleep apnea test before even though I had four of them before but I feel like there's no team involved here. I'm going to a hospital but I've never been a patient at. I don't believe there is a team at all so I hope they're knows what they're doing because I'll be totally out of it and yes they're sending me home the same day yes and I'm going to be totally by myself totally by myself😢 and it doesn't seem to be concerning them so I'm assuming 911 will be my best friend if I can stay awake to know that something's happening to me. I don't know am I going to be given pain medication or am I just going to have to buy the bullet all night long or until my pre-op visit there is so much lack of communication I get my information here on KZbin I just don't know about this I know I need it so I'm going into this blind there is no team everybody talks about the team you can go on the bariatric sites on Facebook and everybody talks about their team I don't have a team I don't have anybody at home taking care of myself but Me Myself and I right now I'm asking for prayers I thank you😢

I do feel better and still deal with nausea, spasms and some pain, but they're improving every day. I need more time to decide on whether or not I'd do it again. I so glad I've seen this video about your story. I been suppose to had my gastric sleeve surgery 2 years ago then last year, but due too covid things had been pushed back. Now 2021 is my year now I I'm scheduled for my surgery June 1, 2021. The only thing about the pre opt liquid diet is a challenge for me. However my doctor gave me three weeks before surgery. I've been cheating one the first week and drinking the liquids as well. I'm really gradually working into the liquid at a time. I'm excited to get it done but nervous as well. I just dont want any dangerous complications. I pray that my surgery goes well. Every please send your good prayers my way. Blessings

I had my gastric sleeve on March 30, 2021. After coming home from the hospital was really rough for me. I got extremely dehydrated and had to have a nurse come to to my home to give me two days worth of IV infusions. I was throwing up and everything. I had no energy for anything. I'm a week and three days out post op. I'm starting to regain my energy back and getting on track with my fluids.

Thank you sooo much for this video, I’m a little nervous and apprehensive about the bypass part as and the immediate and long term effects on me and my life and lift-style.

Thanks for the video! I can assure you that poking your eyes is not a great idea, lol. I've had five surgeries within three months. I had a liver infection that sent me into the hospital. After a week of vomiting green, the doctor stopped the infection, removed my gallbladder, and put a stent. Later, I had to remove the stent by going into general anesthesia again. A few weeks later, I did both eyes PRK procedures. So, I know very well the pain for stomach incisions, gases, and vomiting. The PRK eyes surgery is very intense, but many years later, I don't regret a bit. My eyes were very delicate for the PRK surgery, but all went well. Covid19 hit me very high, I got very sick from it staying at home, still. Having panic attacks, migraines, Hidradenitis Suppurativa, and much more. My health got into the point that I was always sick even at home, so I decided to talk with doctors and did the weight loss process for the surgery. I gained 4lbs because I can't exercise due to my skin condition. The doctor asked me to do a bunch of stomach exams because during one of the endoscopy, my stomach didn't empty properly, and I vomited when I was waking up from anesthesia All the exams afterward showed no problems with my stomach. My sleeve surgery is booked for July 17, but I am very worried and scared. He asked me not to eat any food except liquids 24 hours prior to surgery for no vomiting. Your video helped me realize that it is okay to feel this way. I have had three cesareans, and the worst pain ever was from kidney stones so far. I thought I was having back pain, not kidney stones. I am just worried that I might die during the surgery. My doctor told me not to worry and that he would do everything he could to make sure I would be okay during the procedure. Thank you so much for your video. God bless you!

Im in bed 3rd floor, room 303 MBC. Surgery yesterday. Sore, but well. It hurts to sip water, but the nurse says it gets better quickly. My wife also had surgery and is here with me. She is well. They showed us video of the procedure. Good COVID-19 protections in place, but I look forward to healing at home.
