just pull your diff breather off to match size and go to any auto shop, it'll match fuel hoses, buy enough hose to route high up into your engine bay. its pretty straight forward, or search youtube
@hondafreak8613
@hondafreak8613 4 жыл бұрын
Yup what he said below. Can buy a Toyota breather with 1/4 npt thread for like $3 You buy a brass 90 1/4 nptm to 1/4 nipple for hose. Screw 90 degree npt fitting into diff, run hose as higher that water level you plan on driving through. Then get another 1/4 nptf to 1/4 nipple and screw the breather into the female fitting at top of 1/4 rubber hose.

And if you have an NP pajero auto I'd recommend sourcing silicone for your transmission breather, because it won't melt if you go driving on soft sand on a 45 degree day.

Hi Graham and Jocko - I’ve owned nine Subarus but now being a retired ex Canberra PS decided if you can’t beat them join them. So with informed advice and research I now own a stock 'low-tech' pre-DPF 2010 Hilux Dual Cab Diesel 4WD in perfect condition which came with RWC/pickup service, bullbar full service history, ARB canopy and sidesteps for my short stature. I travelled interstate (pre Covid) to get it. The owner was very transparent about its condition so I new what I was getting. It won’t be a show pony but your fireside banter and informed advice helps to ensure I build something practical and sensible for my future treks. Good choice with the legendary Nissan Shauno (nice paint job too) and Isuzu. Enjoy the DMAX Graham and look forward to your kit for it. Yes lets respect our ‘mother’ and she will respect us when we out there - John (Johnno) in SA

Best mod is a towbar with a 2inch square receiver welded on the front of the frame and underneath the stock bumper. It's used to recover, winch, tow and manoeuvre a boattrailer/camper in tight places with poor visability on my own with out having to step out loads of times to check. I have a "89 1st gen toyota 4runner. Bought it back in the Netherlands as a daily and for moist clay tracks when fishing and pulling small boat trailers. In the 1st month after i bought it i did a thorough service to set a base line, diff breathers, recovery points, and 235/75r15 BFG km2's. After +/- 2 years of owning i did new balljoints, brakes and brake lines all around, 2inch suspension lift, 1inch bodylift, rocksliders, a towbar with 2inch square receiver got welded on the front of the frame underneath the stock bumper and 255/85r16 Maxxis Creepycrawler's were fitted. Moved to Curaçao now used as a weekend toy for light to moderate offroading with loose gravel and sharp coral rocks. After +/- 4 years of owning i did a 140amp alternator (original is 70amp), ARB twin air compressor, ARB airlockers front and rear, Yukon 4.88 gears and Yukon chromoly axles, dual battery setup and a "mobile" winch so it can be hooked on in the front or the back towbar and is stored inside. And a 1UZFE is waiting on all the conversion parts to go in and replace the 22RE that is still going strong after 300k kilometers.

My first mod was two PVC pipes with caps on the ends for drinking water when I went camping, bolted them to the roof racks and screwed a tap into the end then filled it with big bottles from coles and it held 50Ls or so, left me with heaps more room in the back of my patrol because I didn’t have to haul around slabs of water or the big bottles of drinking water, cost me $15 to make from Bunnings and it was by far the best thing I’d ever done

1. Oil Catch can 2. Diff gearbox breathers 3. Dual battery system 4. 33 - 35 inch tyres 5. Rock sliders This is what I would think would be the best options for a new-old 4x4 I highly recommend oil catch cans as they protect your engines health and also stops blow by and pressure by passing the pistons and creating problems. Cheers guys 🍺

As soon as i got my 2011 colorado, I dropped every fluid and clean out the air filter, then I got the wallet out for a TJM Bullbar.. bit of cash left over that went to a set of 9" kings spotties. Done both for less then 2k. Budget quality at its finest!

I'm 18 and I bought my first 4wd before I passed my test and I have been rebuilding it replacing all the rust with giid metal and I have heavy duty front and rear bumpers and some chunkier tyres but I will be doing a full service, replacing all brakes and looking at all bushings and bearings even tho I know it's last 5 years because it was a friends car before me

From the US so I bought a used Jeep WJ. I've only had it a month and I'm building it slow on a budget. Very first mod... Jeep Cables, the big 7 to shore up my electicals. I cleaned all my ground points and applied dielectric grease on all my terminals. Second is fluids and filters. I am currently doing oil, transmission, and transfer case. Next I'll do diffentials and bleed brakes, and then coolant flush and sort out a/c.

I agree with the aircompressor as the first thing you get. It gives you that little bit more confidence to let your tyres down just that little bit more. Sometimes you go out on a track and think... "well it is 10kms to the nearest servo, maybe I wont let them down that much." but letting them down just makes it easier on you and your vehicle.

I would say the best mod I have fitted to my 4x4 was a "snorkel". Not because I'm driving deep water crossings, but the cleaner and cooler air introduced to the engine is the main reason why. The sandy and dusty roads of Botswana and Namibia are deleterious to the engine and the snorkel improved the quality of air immensely.

My best mod was a deep dish steering wheel on the FJ. Being 6’3 it allowed me to get my knee between the door and steering wheel when trying to brake. Before that it had to be a planned and coordinated event with bruises on the knee as you jammed your leg to brake. Great tips guys.

First mod on our Prado 150 was some solid UVP from Kaon. That was after taking it out to Glasshouse and realising how much it scraped... 😆 Next was rock sliders. In hindsight probably should have had an air compressor first, but that will be next with diff breathers after tonight but still going to keep the suspension & tyres stock and see how far we can go!

The best mod I have done to my 80 series was modifying the rear cargo space, I removed the two very back seats and played around with seat clamp rods or whatever they are where the two very back seats clamp to and I got 4 tie down points professionally fitted so if I have a couple of water jerrycans or an esky I can use ratchet straps to tie them down and they don’t move. It sounds ridiculously useless but it has been priceless for me. Now I can utilise the space to it’s absolute greatest potential.

My best mod (which wasn’t my first) was front bumper because I replaced 3 stock ones before biting my lip to fork out a grand for a winch and light bar capable bushguard. My cheapest and earlier mod was also more recovery points like rear tow hooks as they only came stock on the front of the truck. I use them all the time to get pulled out of a bog hole and to tug stuck vehicles out as well.

Best mod. Isolated secondary electric circuit....alternator, battery, charge guage, Isolator switch and fuse box. This serves the winch and all ancillaries. If linked to the main circuit via a switch, backs up the system in case of alternator failure.

Took the BT on some sand tracks today at Woodgate. Stopped at a camp site for pics, i pulled a dangerous large rusty nail from a tree and chucked a couple cans/bottles in the tray to dispose of later. its not hard to do. I must admit i could have spent 10 more minutes and done a more thorough sweep. All in All - I'm so thrilled to hear this is becoming a conscious movement. I'd be ecstatic to see boaties and fisherman getting involved. I live in Hervey Bay and I've seen some grubs. Great work gents.

My Chevy s10 4x4 came to me with street tires and cost 800 bucks . First mod was 31 inch used tires for 200 bucks usd. And then instead of lifting it I leveled it with the torsion bars (free) then my approach and departure angles needed work so I pulled the ole death wheel out and marked the bumpers and bed and gained about 4 inches of clearance in the front and rear with the prerunner cut (free) also made a rear tube bumper for about 15 bucks in material. My first mod I would recommend if your going to modify any vehicle is a welder and classes to learn to weld.

good to see you guys back together again. the banter between you guys and jocko is what makes this show. as for mods. for me the game changer for budget was a drawer system. as i own a frontera i hadjust under 900mm to work with i went with a xtm drawer and fridge slide combo that has a cutting board slide as well. i teamed that up with a home built drawer slide beside that. this has been an amazing. for a more expensive mod a 2 inch lift. it just allows me to get trough the ruts better. being an ifs ita like driving a sausage dog. plenty of want to do the tougher tracks but it slowed up by the belly dragging. you know what they say about a few extra inches
