I put 3,000 miles on one here in MN. Get the best Gator skin tires. I got 5 flats in the first two months, only one in the next 2500 miles. Get the second battery added on ($400). The range on a nice day is just 22 miles. In a MN Nov at freezing temp,

Those are some adventures. I agree on the maintenance- I had to swap out a tube on the rear wheel which is not like removing and replacing your standard rim on a road bike. I filmed the whole process- I’ll get to sharing the steps one day. I hope to get back on my bike soon once this brutal heat wave let’s up and I am back in school this Fall. Until then, she’s sadly gathering a bit of dust. (80! That’s inspiring - thanks for sharing!)

Hey this keeps happening to me as well. What tire size did you get for the gator skin tires? or what equals the 700x42 standard size?

OMG! Your motivation and experience is almost exactly parallel to mine! I wanted inexpensive and stealth, because I live in a crime-ridden city; this one fit the bill! Like you, my speed adjuster ring ALSO broke, but I didn't think to contact Ride1Up; instead I taped it back into place with electrical tape. This week, a reflector fell off the pedal! I really hope this isn't the beginning of the bike's disintegration, after owning it for less than a year, and treating it with "kid gloves"! Look forward to seeing what you say after 1,000 miles. Currently, I'm at 136; you do a lot more commuting than I! Safe travels!

Thanks for sharing that experience. Yes, the ring on that bike computer is definitely a poor design- I wonder if yours is still under the 1 year warranty? Nothing else on my end yet- it’s been too cold so have been riding less, but should have that 1K logged soon.

1,500 miles in WI now between June - November this year. So far zero maintenance except a blown tire, which was my own fault for riding 20mph into a big bump. Replacing the back tire did take a little more effort than a standard bike, but in my opinion it was not a big difference. I can typically go ~15 miles on the standard battery with power level 1-3 out of 5 most of the time. However, I also did a ~70 mile ride on the standard battery by just toggling between power levels zero and one when I went for a longer tour with a group of people. That still worked out pretty well. In general very happy with this bike which was very cheap (799 or 899$). However, I believe this won't work in WI winter conditions and looking for other alternatives, preferably with a belt drive.

Except for the 70 mile ride, your experience mirrors mine precisely.

Great video and bike. I agree with you on an ebike. I have the Roadster on my wishlist as well a the FLX Babymaker. I'm out of shape and my ebike has got me out in the sunshine and riding again. It also helped to get me through my initial congestive heart failure.

Thanks for your feedback. The latest challenge is fixing a flat on the rear tire since it requires learning how to dismount and reattach the motor hub and belt. It's doable, but something you want to learn at home rather than in the field. I hope to post an update shortly - too many projects!

I’m at approximately 1200 miles. I have to ride on dirt/grass for about 1/2 mile on my 8 mile commute. I had same warranty issue that company quickly honored. I recently bought a second for my son. No product is perfect, but so far it has been a very good experience.

Me too. Only challenge is changing a flat on the rear wheel, but I suspect that’s typical for most electric bikes.

I have 2500 miles on this bike in just over a year. I would buy the gravel version today which is also a single speed Gates belt drive, mechanical disc brakes and wider tires. It's also geared a bit lower than your model. I can get about 25 miles on a full battery using PAS1. This bike is good for city riding and for commutes with limited steep hills. The plastic hinge of the display unit cracks easily. They replaced mine for free under warranty. I believe they have since upgraded to a metal hinge. I swapped out many components to make it fit better for my 6 feet, 3 inch height. Replaced handlebars, added suspension stem, SPD pedals, better seatpost with more setback, Selle Italia saddle and better brake pads. Overall it's a great value for a stealthy entry level ebike.
@ModestMaker
@ModestMaker 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. It's great you've logged 2500 miles in one year, and glad to hear they've upgraded that plastic clamp. I must admit though that I've been riding my road-bike more these days, so my 1000-mile review has been delayed a bit. There's something about the simplicity of a 1980s Nishiki that gets lost with this heavier electric, although I'm happy with both.

I must admit I've been riding the Nishiki more lately. It's nice when I'm not trying to make my class on time- the Roadster is still under 1K miles after I got a flat and rediscovered the Nishiki :) Enjoy the rides!

Hello my friend, don’t usually comment but as a fellow e-bike rider just wanted to share a charging safety tip (even with a quality Samsung battery) overnight charging can potentially be dangerous, large lithium batteries can overcharge and become a fire hazard. If I ride down to say 40% remaining I’ll set a timer and just charge for maybe 1 and 45 minutes and be back to five bars. Do a quick google for more info, just want you to be safe. Take care, friend!
@ModestMaker

Good point and probably better not to charge to 100% if not needed. Thanks!

I have always had the friction-style brakes that came on this bike so nothing really to compare to. On that note, no issues that I can see stopping- works just like my old school road bike👍.

Thanks for the great review. I really like your DIY bike crate. Can you please post details/build instructions for it?
@ModestMaker
@ModestMaker Жыл бұрын
Sure - fairly simple: (1) Find or purchase an old milk crate (I salvaged mine from the river). (2) Attach this bike rack to your bike: amzn.to/3J7mf2A (I skipped the stays since I don't carry a lot of weight on my rack); (3) Use zip ties to attach the crate to your bike. That's it-- I'll share photos in an upcoming video.

What are your thoughts on size? I'm taller (about 6'4') and I just ordered one because of reviews like yours and the price point. I hope I don't feel too squished. Thoughts on handlebars? Some say they are a bit narrow and make the bike "twitchy" at lower speeds. Have you considered replacing them with something wider?

I am 6"1' and have the seat post raised about 3 inches and am riding it comfortably. I just tried raising it another 3 inches without issues - I think you'll be okay.

I've been thinking about purchasing this bike. Thanks for the review. It looks like the Tucson area is banning Ebikes from some bike trails?
@ModestMaker
@ModestMaker 2 жыл бұрын
Not sure, but this bike is very quiet and low enough profile that I don't think it would be an issue. Tucson is a fairly progressive community- can't imagine they would go after e-bikes for taking advantage of trails for safety and relieving traffic congestion. No guarantees though.

For reference, what height and weight are you? which frame size did you go with, 52 or 58? I am considering the 58, but I am only 5'11 with a 30-31" inseam

I'm 5'11; I got the 58", because that's what the chart recommended. However, to get on the bike, I have to lean it at an angle; I now wonder if I would have been better off going with the lower height, so that I could just get onto the bike without having to lean it over.
