If my smoke detector had wires like yours in this video, should I stick with the same type of smoke detector or can I just switch it up and go with the battery operated and tuck away the batteries behind it?

You could do what you’re doing (not replacing the pigtail itself) while it’s still hot. But I understand why you turned it off.

How do you take off the plastic near the battery door? It says to pull in the direction of the arrow until I see black bars, but I pull with all my strength and can’t find the black bars
