Can you believe that it’s been a year since installation of this garden?
Hannah and I knocked it out without any drama today.
Most Everything is growing and thriving.
We moved a couple of things around and added a gorgeous Echeveria agavoides “Maria” to the mix, freshened up the top dressing and got on our way.
Thanks so much for following!

No no no... Do not do me like that with that e. agavoides 'maria!' I love the agavoides so flipping much, and that one is an absolute banger. Love the hesperaloe, the portulocaria afra variegata needed to go. The heights were just competing. It would be like planting the hesperaloe right next a dasylirion longissimum... The wispiness would compete.

This remains one of my most favorite installations! It's just so fun to see it all! At first I thought to put the Red Wing in place of the lavender Mangave that you pulled out and moved that had been over to the side but I love what you did. Love those superbums! Also love the sunburst aeoniums. I have one that did equally beautiful but to have more of them is my goal. All so delightful on the eyes!

Re the "hot mess" - put a third plant, something with color, to the right, by the fence post. Or pull the portalacardia back by the fence, and put something in front of it that has color.

I would swap the two mangavé, the red one would stand out in the shammie rock and the silvery gray one would stand out in front of the colorful succulent by the steps

My ruschia is literally thriving in very dry soil with no irrigation, and I'm located in a climate similar to Sunset Cliffs. Maybe remove any irrigation around it and treat it like the cacti. I'm not sure that approach would work in a hotter climate tho. What a show-stopping garden you and Hanna created!

The "wildness" of the hesperaloe and portulacaria didn't really bother me so much, it's just that, imo, they were lost against that ivy background. Too much green when the hesperaloe's not in bloom. Tbh, I think that whole side of the yard to the right of the stairs and the pathway to the side/rear of the house was very bland color-wise, compared to the rest of the yard. I was happy to see you introduce more color in that area. Such a lovely installation--I'll bet the neighbors just love looking out their windows and seeing it!

I think the portulacaria with the Hesperaloe is too much of the same texture together, that's the issue for me 🙃 I'd add something with a bold texture between them to make them pop 😉

Beautiful garden Laura. Curious how the flagstone and gravel path was done. Are the flagstones cemented in place or just sitting on a crushed granite base.

Hello new to gardening/landscaping. I live in colorado and I never really cared about gardening but I just never liked how blend grass looks. On top of being water heavy. We’ll basically I’m trying to ask if there is a discoard or links 😂 I can get for a beginner. I’m good with bio and math so don’t be afraid to shoot me sum nerdy stuff.

Why would you add rubble back if there is a skunk that will cause further damage. Seems like it would look just as good with plain gravel.

My vote for taking out the hesper aloe and replacing it with something else but leaving the afra varegata. The wild stringy-ness of the hesper doesn’t do anything visually for me. Sorry Hannah!

Sorry Laura, but I’m with Hannah on this topic. While these plants don’t coexist together outside gardens, I much prefer a wilder, more natural look over your manicured style. 😺✌️
