Hey mistakes happen, I work with dumpsters and they don’t have a big enough skid steer when I am loading and unloading a dumpster full of dumpsters (+800 lbs) it lifts off onto two wheels and it’s just not heavy enough, I’ve dropped tons of dumpsters even on the truckers trailer (we receive flatbed full of metal) The worst I’ve done is I was going really fast and I spun around a bit and I dropped a dumpster on a 2 year old truck and put a hole into the fender at work, I know how it feels and when something messes up and it’s your fault, im glad no one is hurt and all I can tell you is Keep safe it’s what’s important because if you can’t work your gonna have to find a way to live, Yes mistakes happen but learn from them and don’t do it again, yeah it may have gotten you fired but that’s telling you, your company does not tolerate mistakes and that’s the only way to learn, from experience, and one last thing, whenever possible learn from others mistakes so you don’t repeat them as your own Love the content, I appreciate you showing this and not hiding it and keep on welding !

Like many people are saying here in the comments, mistakes happen, but no one was hurt so that was a best case scenario. You're a good man for letting your ego down (when most wouldn't) to share a lesson you learned. Just a thought, I used to run machines for a small excavating outfit. We had a tank like yours on a flat bed that we'd use from time to time. We rigged a cheap Harbor Freight pump and hose to it so we'd be able to use it without having to unload it off the flatbed. Came in mighty handy to get into some hard to reach areas.

Hey Austin, really like all your videos and sharing of knowledge. I'm a grading contractor/ & operator. Done the same thing w/ pallets and nice tree's in boxes from nursery. I've learned to barely lift up something off trailer & gently rock machine to gauge the weight for the same reason. You can put a pipe or stake in the back slots of machine and have helper stand on it, to cheat and counter weight load, definitely not osha approved, but it gets it done. Gotta take one course of bags off top of pallets or restack top row closer to headboard of your forks when there a little to heavy. When your augering your holes, you gotta have your helper perpindicular to your line of site to eye your auger bit and keep plum, looks like you did once on video, but he has to help constantly not just to start. I'm sure you noticed, as you go deeper your angle changes, have to back up slightly as you go deeper to keep her plum. You , or operator eyes plum from seat, helper eyes plum on side. Skid steers aren't ment to have lots of downward pressure, they're designed to counterweight load while lifting, unless you have rear stabilizers like some older bobcats. When you hit hard material you have no downward force like when you hit that sandstone. I take a block of wood, nail some plywood to it, like 2.5' x 2.5', so when you hit harder material, your helper can slide it under rear of machine like a jack stand or rear outrigger. You'll have all gobs of downward force then & it will dig right thru the hard stuff. Sorry about the essay, like you I just like to share what i've learned over the years, like you do. I do a lot of welding & have learned a bunch from your videos, Thanks & keep it up

What gauge post and cross member to you ran and would run normally? A fully tote of 275 Gallons of water weight about shy of 2500LBS. Yes you often under estimate the weight that is why I leave my tote always on the trailor and run from it just a garden hose with a diaphram 12V pump this way I don't have to load or unload the bastard. 2" Banjo down to 3/4" with hose threat as long you don't need higher pressure you can get away even without a garden hose. I also carry my small concrete mixer and a wheel barrel with me so my helper can premix it at the trailer and than wheel it over to the hole and just poor it in. Works very well for me.

I'm currently in the process of building 2k feet of 3 pipe fence. I rented a cat 249 skid steer with forks and auger to do the first 300 feet. I'm in stage 2, and talked to the rental guy here. I'm currently using a 259 cat. I tell you that to tell you this. The 249 worked great until I needed to handle the pallet of cement. It lifted it, and I was able to move it, but it was all that thing wanted. The 259 is lifting it a lot better, but still feels a little light on the back side. I'd recommend a 279 if you can get ahold of one in The future. The skid steer has made my life significantly easier with this fence project. Hope this helps, and good luck.

Welcome to the fence contractor world, plan for everything and something will always happen. Lol a couple pieces of advice I have for ya. 1. locate usually takes 3 days to mark a location, call it in a week before your planning to start and list your start date. 2. When digging with a auger on a skid steer rember to back up as you go down to get your hole nice and straight, not that big of a deal if your just going 3 ft down, throw an extension on and drilling to 4 or 6 ft and you will end up 6" off of your mark. 3. Dry set posts don't worry about the water. (I know its an age old argument but honesty unless your pouring a bunch of posts and the concrete is coming off a truck your better off just throwing the bags in the hole and tamping it untill its solid, ground water or the next rain will soak into the concrete and have it cured within a week. Now to share my mistake of the week. Building some welded pipe fence with horse panels 5ft tall by 16ft long, my truck that pulls the goose neck trailer blew the rear-end out so I had to go get the panels with my little bumper pull trailer thats 12ft long. I put a 16ft medium duty feedlot gate down first to support the panels, went and got all 35 of them loaded and start driving back to the jobsite about 5 miles away. As soon as I get up to 40 mph I realized I had a problem, my axle on the little trailer was no were near far enough back to support my load so I was tail heavy doing the fish tail going down the road, as soon as I could i turned off onto a dirt road not relizing the huge drop off bent the gate as it bottomed out on the paved road and drove the last 3 miles feeling like an idiot going 35mph. Shit happens🤷♂️😁

Losing a water tank ain’t a big deal, I know guys that put an auger through a water line and spent the whole day fixing a water leak and didn’t get any part of the fence done for 3 days because fixing the water leak was a mess because it was galvanized, so this is minor to other things that can go wrong, I did a job once that pipe fence and I bid it thinking my auger could dig the holes, well 12 inches In it was solid rock, I spent days hand digging through rock so this mistake was minor, obviously it bothers you because you don’t like to mess up, thanks for sharing keep up the good work and thanks for another cool video

Austin, proud of you buddy for having the courage to talk about it. That’s the path forward you need to take. This is what I call an acceptable mistake. Sure you got served a big ol’ slice of humble pie, but with machinery and heavy stuff, this is just a little oops. I’ve made my share. I recommend you re-evaluate where you rent equipment from, it can make a big difference. Not sure where you are in OK. I have rented from White Star Machinery in Wichita, very very good experience, great equipment and more than fair on the rental rates. They have a location in Tulsa.
@aldencharley48754 жыл бұрын
Well like my brother always said to me about heavy equipment, you gotta make a few mistakes to learn from them and he has been running heavy equipment eversince he graduated in the late 1980s. But I have made mistakes on a skidsteer but I learned from it. I'm glad I bit the bullet and showed up for for work. It ain't easy working with seasoned operators and the foreman puts you in a piece of equipment. But I'm glad they did that to me and put me In a very uncomfortable position and learned how to run equipment. One of the earliest pieces of equipment I learned was the foot control Bobcat like you mentioned and got pretty good with it and than had to learn the hand control model. But by the grace of God I have acquired skills and now I'm working on getting my welding skills up to par. You'll get it as soon as it becomes muscle memory, it's like riding a bike you will never forget.
