OILFIELD PIPE FENCE - THE HIDDEN TRUTH
In this video, we are at an Oklahoma homestead re hanging gate using the handy dandy gate jacks. I’m Austin Ross of arosswelding and on this channel, I share my experiences as a rig welder and what I have going on in my mobile welding business. I’m also answering if I use oilfield drill pipe to make oilfield pipe fence. Also what’s wrong with using oilfield pipe, oilfield pipe fence post, and welding oilfield pipe fence. I’m covering pipe post, pipe gate brace, pipe gate, farm gate, pipe gate hinges, heavy duty gate, metal gate, etc. Subscribe for more videos on heavy duty cattle gates, livestock gate, on site welding, mobile welding, oklahoma farm, homestead, agriculture fence, etc.

Those jacks are awesome! I needed those about a month ago for a gate that I overdid and weighed a lot! I solve the problem with a hi-lift and some wood. I'm a hobbyist, so for me, I'll probably use them once in my lifetime, however, I'll keep those in mind just in case another project comes up! Thank you for sharing!

Gotta love the twine. When I worked on the farm the laborers used it to "fix everything". Had to lock up the pallets we had of it because each guy would snag several boxes of it. I'll give them credit though, atleast they tried and it usually held until I got around to fixing the issue.

What thickness of do you use if you have the choice of using thicker pipe. And keep up the good work. I enjoy watching you and listening to your tips. I built corrals here at home. My wife bought used pipe. The pipe we used for posts were, I think, oil field pipe. They were extremely difficult to weld (some were easier than others). I used 6011 which was I use mostly since most things are really rusty. New metal I have used 7018 and it looks beautiful (at least to me). But need to repair the corrals (once it cools off). Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Also depends were you get the pipe from, I have 4 suppliers around the Midwest and Wyoming that I can get pipe from depending on were im working, I gwt stuff through them because they clean the inside and outside of the pipe, and usually it is such good quality it doesn't matter much. I charge 25% more to weld with some crap someone has laying around, because 99.9% of the time it has been sitting in the dirt and they haven't looked at it in 15 years or it was crap in the beginning. If it has splits in it of any kind it belongs in the scrap yard.

Hey Austin. When y’all weld off the roll out from the hitch of y’all’s truck do y’all have to disconnect the battery? It’s something that’s never been covered or at least I’ve heard of and i follow many welding channels. Also do you have to disconnect the battery if you’re going to tack something or weld something on it? Like the bed? Thank you.

My Grandfather built a house completely from used materials salvaged from a school. He was a retired steam pipe fitter. The house was great until the plumbing started needing repairs. You see he had welded everything from the well house up to the last elbow where he used a nipple to connect the faucet water heater or hose bibs. It worked fine for us my dad and I both weld but when Grandpa sold the house the new owner was not prepared to do that kind of matiance work. The house was torn down within 10 years.

Hey man, get a dozen 3"x5" refreezable packs on amazon and throw them in a little baggy and keep em in your front pockets. They last about an hour and keep the blood running down your legs way cooler. The extra bag will keep them from leaking should you get a spark in your pocket, odds are it wont find the second hole, although i haven't had that issue yet.

Paint it with kem kromik from Sherwin Williams. Absolutely amazing stuff. We do ironwork and use it to prime metal. I was almost done cleaning out a graco paint sprayer with mostly thinner left in bucket and a little kem kromik still in the mix. I sprayed an old rusted tractor tractor blade with white just to see if the spray coming out was still white or if the thinner had made it through the hose. That was three years ago and no rust bleed through yet. Amazing stuff.

Not all used tubing and casing are bad. It’s very important that you inspect your pipe before purchasing it or purchase from a reputable source that won’t sell garbage. Oil field pipe in some areas of the country is pure junk, other areas it’s pure gold.

you got better chances of getting struck by lightning than getting hurt from radioactive pipe, most of it isnt very active, no more than what background radiation. what will kill/hurt your body the most is the fumes. we throw anti corrosion chemicals down the pipe string and itll burn your sense of smell and blind ya. not including all the shit that gets pumped in and out of them pipes + if they got a plastic liner makes it a pain in the rear...
