First Attempt at Starting and First Ride - 1991 FXRS Build Series- Ep.9

Well, here it is guys and gals. Our first start-up of the 1991 #FXR and first ride. In this episode we had a couple of small hiccups, but overall I think it went as expected. As you can see from the thumbnail, we got it on the road, though not a 100%, we still made it to Justin's to get his reaction to the bike. So stick around to see how that goes, and spoiler alert, this will NOT be the last episode in this series. As you see from the video, we still have things to address. With an FXR you could easily pull off a chopper rake! If it were a dyna then it would be a no go, but with the rigid frame a chopper rake will still allow it to handle well!

Very clean build. I like the taller front end look but you’ll probably lose some handling with it. Always want the rear end to be slightly taller to put weight on the front end for handling. Can either lower the front, get some RT/RP rear struts which will raise the rear about an inch, or some fxr4ever shock lift blocks.

I don’t mind the look, but completely agree, I have been looking into some RP struts to bring up the rear. Either a set from FXR division or Oliver. The block are a nice option too.

Memphis shades makes the ones with the chrome trim just got one for my fxbb m8 Called the MEMPHIS SLIM not sure if they make it for fxr 39 mm but I’m sure if it works on the early dyna it will the fxr

I went with the genuine H-D compact one. Mainly because I didn’t want to see the clamps on the forks when the shield is off. Hopefully it works just as good as the MS would have

What do you think about the Bitubo shocks so far? Did you have any clearance issues with the lower mount?

Price and looks are great!! Personally compared to other shocks I have ridden, these are a little stiff. I have just over 700 miles on them so far. Will take out some more preload to see if it get better. Overall very happy, but just letting it be known it’s not as plush as a set of legends or Ohlins

What went wrong with the brakes?

The T-fitting setup I’m using is made up of 4 pieces, and I can’t get one of the fittings to seal up. Not sure if it’s the junction or the fitting, but I have since bought a 1 piece setup that I will show on the next episode that actually works way better.
