Where you went is not even close to Backcountry. You skied the easiest run of an old ski area. Go back to the top and go north or south and you’ll find some good side country. Again, not real Backcountry. Go further west to the top of Russell Peak and go north or south 100 yards and you will find yourself some real hard-core back country. Go with friends! Have all the gear. Good luck.

Is the slopes Nick skiing on patrolled and avalanche mitigated by a ski resort? No. Backcountry skiing isn’t going over to hell’s half acre or floral park and potentially not coming home because some guy on the internet said that you have to be in consequential terrain to be “backcountry skiing.” Dude quit gatekeeping and let people enjoy what they want. I’m sure you’re one of those guys that gets mad if he sees someone in a zone. Fuck off man. Nick - great video! I haven’t been on berthoud since November, I’m sure it’s skiing better now.
