FIRST BACKYARD POND DIVE, EVER! Treasure Hunting w/ a FiFiSH V6 Underwater Camera Robot 2019 QYSEA

GET ONE HERE: amzn.to/2Mwz7FU (UPDATE: with Claw: amzn.to/2L5O9Cg) This is INCREDIBLE! I finally get to start the hunt for my DJI Phantom Vision 2.. that I lost 4 years ago in this expansive pond. A few days ago, I posted this video: • Unboxing a NEW TREASUR... - an unboxing of the new 2019 www.qysea.com/ FiFish V6! It is truly remarkable to look at .. and today I get to take it out for the very first time. I am very excited.. but also know that piloting such a new vehicle will take some practice. Surprisingly, it reminds me a lot of flying an Airplane. The controls with the Pitch, Roll and Yaw of the vehicle are identical. Of course.. any piloting experience would be helpful.. but certainly not necessary. There are 3 different skill modes I can run this submarine on.. and I will try them all in this film.
Also, I really like how bright the lights are! For me, the murky pond can be very dark.. and as long as I keep my machine moving in a forward motion, the wash from the thrust propellers is not an issue. I did find myself getting disoriented when I got lost.. and found that the APP for the unit is still very new.. and parts of it are in beta testing. Go figure.. but that is the perk, and downside of getting to test neat products like this one.
The First Person view goggles were a bit uncomfortable, but not heavy. The bridge of my nose did not feel like the goggles were supported well, and the goggles themselves seemed rather low quality. BUT STILL SUPER NEAT and functional. I did have to squint a bit .. (I'm not known to have sight issues), but found the goggles easier to use when I closed one eye. Again.. not super amazing.. but the experience is still unmatched!
Overall, I had an excellent 30 minutes of run time. I could have easily gone more.. but I see the manual asks not to run the battery down passed 50%.. so, under some cloud cover anyways.. I shut it down when I was done.

Great video, coming from a former ROV Pilot I can give you a few pointers. Try to stay away from hard thruster inputs. All it will do is make you blow up bottom and loose visibility. Use as little pitch and yaw as possible, that's another way to blow up the bottom. When searching I wouldn't recommend using the VR goggles. With out sonar and a depth finder it's hard to see where your at, especially for a beginner. Also if you can get in a large swimming pool to practice. It will help you become aware of how you doing. In the water with the low viz you cant actually see how your flying. When searching make sure to create you a invisible search grid and run as straight of a line that you can. It's not easy, especially when your in 9000 ft of water. Other then that good vid!!

how would you know you are in a straight path wihout GPS or radar?

Neither GPS or radar would work underwater. A compass is the simplest sensor for traveling in straight lines. He could also stretch some chains or weighted rope across the pond to provide reference points.

On something like this you would have to use a line of sight that's why you wouldnt be able to use the VR goggles. Also to know your location under water you would have to use a transponder. The transponder uses a beacon that is attached to the ROV that sends out HF chirps that then go to the transponder. Using this is kind of like echo location. As far as GPS, the signal from the satellite cannot travel deep enough through the water to get a reliable signal. After looking at this ROV online it does look like it has a built in compass. If that the case he can use that to keep in a straight line.

Exciting stuff Aaron! I watched the entire video, much like any reality treasure hunting show. The anticipation of the host finding their target, I was hoping that you would spot your Phantom. When you do find it, you need to rig up a recovery boat with a winch system to bring it up. I look forward to more underwater vids. 🤙🏼

I'm sure you're investigating all the angles of the drone, but I bet the pivot(?) Lock function and the head tracking function will definitely assist you in your exploration.
