I have a Turkey processing plant in town. The agricultural business is quite advanced. They use masks and gloves, and ANY conjunctivitis is swabbed and given 5 days of Tamiflu. It’s the reason that there are no deaths there. Same on dairy farms. A human vaccine is already available, and a poultry vaccine is in development. I listened to a TWIV podcast and they are frankly scornful about an H5 being able to transmit between humans.

Love me some TWiV - both the longer podcast with the whole gang, and also the TWIV Clinical Update with Dr. Griffin. Just like Whiteboard Medicine, they're really good clear communicators and also like WM, no hysteria or clickbait. So grateful for both channels.

@@JillKnapp Yeah they are great! Nice to learn from actual virologists on some of the denser virology topics, rather than here we are physicians so don't have as much exposure other than dense virology!

@@holliegh31977 Glad to hear you trust our vaccines, too. It's pretty great not having polio, isn't it? ❤️

Given that SA α2,6-Gal receptors are present in the paranasal sinus as well as the human eye, why are most infected people develop conjunctivitis first before developing upper respiratory symptoms? Why is it easier for the virus to bind to SA α2,6-Gal receptors present in the human eye than those present in the epithelial cells lining the upper respiratory tract? Is it because the SA α2,6-Gal receptors are found in the conjunctiva and thus more readily accessible to the virus? It seems like the virus reach the upper respiratory tract(probably the paranasal sinus) via the eyes. I've concluded that they don't develop pneumonia at first because the SA α2,6-Gal receptors are in the bronchioles and alveoli and therefore it has to reach the upper respiratory tract first.

If this virus enters into and becomes endemic in the human race, how are we going to survive it? Hospitals and morgues will be overwhelmed and it won't stop. I am a bit of a prepper so I still have PPE from last time, but I think this pandemic will be much worse.

We hope that it doesn’t get to that point! Interestingly, most cases have been very mild disease. We will continue following as things evolve!

It will be mitigated by the immune system- antibodies and time. Spanish flu was bird flu- humanity is still here. Sunshine, vit d3, mitigation of cytokine storm and antibiotics are for secondary bacterial infections. Most people die from secondary bacterial infections- have antibiotics!

We are in the Last Days. 1/3 of the population will perish. Not long after that 1/4 of those survivors will be gone then.

@ Moderna just got 600 million to work on vaccines. And other countries around the world are also working on vaccines. I worry about third world countries.

@@James-ke5sx I hope the incoming admin will uphold that work and won't block vaccine development or distribution. That's my main worry.
