Loved hearing your thoughts. Its always great to see someone who thoroughly enjoyed Gardens of the Moon. You are really in for a treat with the next books. Will just advise to read the next 2 books with as little gap as possible. After that you will understand. Because while Malazan absolutely doesn't require the reader to be super intelligent, it does require or rather help to remember things from previous books. Thats why longer gaps between the books tend to make you forget some stuff. Best wishes for your journey.

This is pretty well known as one of the WEAKEST malazan books (at least on a first read) so you are in for a wonderful treat with the rest!

Welcome to Malazan!! You’re in for a wild ride that will make you laugh and cry and feel awestruck. Glad you loved GotM and excited for you to carry on! As for what you read next… those all sound good and those I haven’t read are on my TBR. The two I have read are Mistborn and WoT and I think they’re both amazing. So by default I guess I’d recommend one of those 😁

And so the old book is open again. Welcome to the fandom. 👏Yep, it will be progressively better. That was the worst book of the series including prose solutions.😁 Btw: don’t be so sure that Steven Erikson won’t watch this. He has a tendency to watch reviews of his books especially if it’s a spoiler one. Not the Wheel of Time. It’s too big for Malazan Joe Abercrombie has trios and in between standalone books. Great character writing, good comparison to Robin Hobb. But if you are only after Farseer? The Lifeship Traders is a blast too. To an extra addition.. I would recommend Discworld if you have a taste to try Terry Pratchett’s absurd humor. He is a true master and can be read book by book. It has different entries.

Haha thank you so much, I can’t believe some say that’s the worst! In what way? 😂 I loved it!!! Yeah I’ve looked at Terry pratchett I’m some what familiar with those and I think I will be reading them too at some point. The vote came back Joe so I’ve started first law, we’ll see how it goes. @@throughthepages_with_dee Joe is fantastic. Gardens of the Moon is not that big in character writing as the others even if you found them really good. The other books are way better. Also the themes are not that flashed out in that book, the others will go deep in ideas and hit hard. Some are darker showing a very nasty picture of what humanity can do. But this is not a grim dark series so compassion is also important. But you will see very soon because the next two books improve fast. But this is all relative. We are talking about a masterpiece. So there is that. Most of the other books can’t reach even this level yet still… let’s see what you say on the same continent in Memory of Ice.

The longer you stay in Malazan world, the better your experience will be. I say, binge it up to Memories of Ice (Book 3) and you'll have a better grasp of what the series is all about.

Hi! New to this channel. I'm a big fan of both Malazan and Hobb. I'd suggest you keep going with realm of the elderlings (Liveship Traders is insanely good!). Or start with Abercrombie, please note that with Abercrombie, each book in his series is a bit better than the last one, so a steady progression there. I think Red Rising and Mistborn are two massively overrated series. If you like Malazan, I'd suggest looking into the works of R Scott Bakker (though these books are very bleak and depressing in all their awesomeness). For something more lighthearted and easy to read, check out "the Crimson Empire" series by Alex Marshall.

John thank you & welcome, 🤗 I did sneakily start liveship and it was gooooood! I got too into kings of the wyld Nicholas eames though but I’m almost done there then it’s on to deadhouse gates. I have read book 1 of First Law and I can see how it’s one big story so I must carry that on at some point. I may then go back to liveship. The crimson empire I’ve heard of but don’t yet have so that’s an excellent shout, and R Scott Baker you say? Ok I’ll definitely have a look, I love getting book recommendations so thank you & you can be sure they’ll appear on my channel at some point. I’m also very interested in reading the warlord chronicles. There’s just so many books I want in my life haha 😊

I agree on Mistborn. Many people love it and I just can't understand. It has such obvious flaws in my opinion.
