First BUILD TALK! Basic Tool Bluetooth Speaker

I'm a mail carrier and a hobbyist woodworker. For a while now, I've wanted to build my own bluetooth speaker so I can either listen to audiobooks or music while I sling mail. I really appreciate your videos for the ideas they give me. Now if I can only put those ideas into action and make something that works for what I need.

hey mate, love your videos, i know you mentioned that you have already spoken about the tweeter being mono....but......is this just on one speaker or did you put it across both speakers? Love the idea of a basic crossover, i will be trying the 4.7uf cap for mine and those DA tweeter

I might sound stupid but I dont know how to select the power adapter and power jack to make sure they will work with the other speaker parts now that the power adapter is out of stock on the parts express website. ie what specs do you have to look at to make sure things will work and not burn other components out.

I think that the videos are unique with music and video presentation and no voice. It'll be cool to have one week of the "no voice" build and next week would be a recap and voice over on that same build for explanations. This will keep the viewers interested. One day I will have a channel and try things like this because I also love to build things that serve purpose. Thanks for you videos on speaker building. They are truly inspirational.

Hey Kirby, I love the idea for your the new format. For the sound test piece, I would definitely add something to it. I would think that most people watch these videos on a device without exceptional sound quality(e.g., iPad, laptop, phone, etc.), so the audience isn't going to really experience what you do while taping it. I like the idea of using an RTA. Also, maybe you could incorporate your subjective opinion on how you would re-tune the speaker to get it closer to your ideal expectation of that particular build. That is, your expectation of sound from the stacked plywood build would be very different from a 3-way tower, so you could let us know how you re-tune the speaker for its intended use. You could touch on different ways to go about crossing over or internally sealing a specific driver. I love your content, and I'm looking forward to the new format. I'll definitely add suggestions on your next build talk.

Hey Kirby, great video. I think it would be really cool with a video on how to tune your speakers with foam. I'm in the process of swapping out the drivers from a set of speakers I've had for fifteen years, into some really cool cabinets I found at a thrift store - the ones from the thrift store was filled with insulation and the ones I took the drivers from had none. Would be cool with a video about what stuff like that does to the audio :)

Do you have anything with a lot of bass? Currently using a Doss soundbox xl sound is amazing but I’m interested in something like the diamondboxx model m. Let me know if you could build something with bass and good clear highs

Although I am one of those crazy audiophile and I strive to refine my technique (both woodworking and crossover designing), I think it is amazing to show to all how amazingly easy it CAN be to design and build a decent speaker! I love the idea to have a 3 weeks plan with build, talk and test! I already love your build videos (literally speaker building porn!) I also love those talky-talk videos where we learn to know you little better! I am definitely interested in a recut, commented version of the build videos! Make those more "in depth" with why you chose this mid and why pair it with that tweeter, and what crossover and why... The cool thing about that is that on more intricate build, it is going to explain more about the science of speaker building, but also, on more "basic" build, it will really show how simple it can be! It won't leave us with the feeling that theres some magic happening behind the camera that you don't show! Love the channel, exited to see it grow! Cheers!

It would be awesome to see you build a speaker with some reclaimed wood that had some cracks. Fill those cracks with resin and add some internal leds or glow in the dark dye to the resin and see what type of look that could have. Just an idea, it might be dumb but could turn out to be really cool. Keep it up, the content is awesome.

One thing that I would like to learn more about is finishing a cabinet. The use of stains, oils, clears, and lacquers. I usually just leave mine unfinished because I like the natural look of the wood but I want to start experimenting with different finishes. Please and thanks!

do find these dayton audio ds drivers are better than the dayton audio ps95 you used before? whats the difference between them? which one you like the most

+ziggy8757 Each is better for different situations. The DS’s can’t hit the top end frequencies so they’re better suited for a 2-way system. The ps95s dons great job at the mid to high frequencies, but lack bass. Thanks for watching!

One thing I was wondering - Do you need a cross over if it is a full range driver, or can you connect the driver (like the Dayton PS95-8 you recommended in another video) right to the amp that you mentioned in this video as you don't need to split the signal. I'm brand new to making speakers and would like to make one as a wedding present (I'm a decent wood worker but brand new at doing speaker components). Thanks for all the info so far!

Speaker Building for beginners is really just putting a box together and put the drivers in. I refurbished an old Bookshelf Speaker. I literally just laid the speakers on a sheet of paper and said that that where my final dimensions. Easy! It sounds better than expected. And it only cost me like 20€ and is way better than any other speaker for that money.

Kirby! The video was great! I would plan it out a little more next time, but the concept is good! The new mic sounds great! As for your builds, I find them super relaxing and awesome, but it would be nice to have some commentary. I find that without the commentary, you miss out on some of the decisions that had to be made in the build process, and leaves some questions unanswered. I think you could achieve both your chill video style while adding commentary by doing something similar to Chris Salomone's build videos. Love your stuff! Super Inspiring! Excited to keep watching! Hi Kirby, I like your videos, especially your info on the electronic components and aesthetics. However, I feel you don't really share on details in design for sound quality. You could share more on the design process for enclosure size/type/fill, channel splitting, speaker size/power/position/orientation. Another thing you could share on is energy efficiency for battery powered speakers: important to maximise that. Again, thanks for sharing your work. Your channel rocks.

This is the speaker I'd like to see plans for: Has volume pot, on/off switch (I'd like to have a pot style on/off switch in addition to the separate volume pot ), AUX IN (which could play aux input simultaniously with bluetooth input), wall power supply, as far as I can see, other plans do not have all of these elements combined.

The box size,, perfect to that size of driver. And,, there's not a damn thing wrong with drywall screws. They're the easiest to use, because, sometimes the sharp self tap comes in handy. I can't build my own boxes from scratch, but when I've helped others,, my knowledge, and flat out guessing have turned out pretty fair.

Why two woofers and one tweeter? Why not 4 woofers and 2 tweeters? Is there specific number for volume room or enclosure? I have 4 Onkyo speakers I was going to scavenge drivers etc from and wanted to build a bluetooth / rca soundbar. Do you angle the drivers differently to fill a room differently? For all people that are new to woodworking, you could try to explain how to build the box: how to measure, cut and glue the wood pieces and any pro tips around these you might have... You did say it is easy but it is not.... The very first box most likely will not ended up well...but that should not stop you from making another one. That is how I started. 👶 Edit: cheap circular saws are crap, that is why they are cheap. Making a clean, straight cut with these is a pain in a butt....
