Thank you for very much for demonstrating the impressive capabilities of the Weber Lumin. I just bought a Lumin to complement my numerous other grills mostly Weber’s; charcoal, gas, pellet, plus an electric Ninja Woodfire Oven. From personal experience, I recommend you buy an instant read thermometer and maybe a grate thermometer. Lid thermometers are great for temperature indications, but do not accurately measure grate temperatures.

I did buy an external thermometer, and it works great.

It did not create much smoke from the burgers like a gas fire grill would. Your neighbors should not be bothered, and may want to join you.

Looks great. Some tips with the grates. They are porcelain, so when cleaning, use a wooden or brass bristle brush to avoid scratching the coating.

does the blue light stay on all the time on the temp control unit ?
@KevinKnauss
@KevinKnauss 4 ай бұрын
Yes, it is not governed by the temperature of the grill as far as I can tell. I do notice that the grill will cycle, power up and power down, to keep assigned setting within range. In other words, if I have it set up to less than High 100%, like the steam setting, the power will fluctuate to keep from getting the grill too hot or cool. How that is set within the power unit, I don't know.

If you're over/under cooking anything the problem isn't the grill, it's the fact that you're not using a good INSTANT-READ (that bit is important) thermometer. Honestly, it will change your grilling (and cooking in general) forever

I have yet to burn or undercook anything with the Weber electric grill. I over toasted a hamburger bun once. No doubt a thermometer is an important tool. However, propane burns hot. The old gas grill I had just did not distribute the heat evenly. For the money and the hassle of clunking around the propane tank, I’ll stick with the electric grill.

Do you think the Lumin Compact is to small to grill what you just grilled? Thanks.
@KevinKnauss
@KevinKnauss Жыл бұрын
I find the grill space is a little small if I try to cook several pieces of meat AND have the steamer or smoker on the other half of the grill. If you are trying to cook only 4 to 6 pieces of meat or vegetables at one time, the compact version may work just fine. The issue is trying to cook 2 different types of food, just not enough space. I would think the compact version would be too small. You would have to rotate the cooking.

Ah…checking your watch, I see a possible source of your previous grilling woes. 😉

I think you are correct. Time seems to stand still, then the meat is overcooked. I’ll take the watch in for repair.

How is the clean up ?
@KevinKnauss
@KevinKnauss Жыл бұрын
So far, the clean up is pretty easy. The drip pan captured most of the grease. A few scrapings from the hamburger patties. Because the grills are in 2 pieces, they are easily removed for additional cleaning.

I just ordered it. Am excited. Hope it is what I think it is going to be. The other electric grills I have had which were $100 or less just didn't do it for me compared to restaurants.

Going from flame heat to electric, the cook times are a little longer, but with fewer burnt portions. The heat in the Weber is pretty even. I’m very happy with it. We cook some beef filets last weekend to medium cook. One of the filets needed a couple minutes longer, but was also a little thicker. I also recommend allowing the meat or vegetable to reach room temperature before putting them on the grill. Dense meat is hard to cook evenly when the interior is cold.

@@KevinKnauss Just used it for the first time. I am very impressed with the results. I had my roommate who is a way more experienced cook than me help me out with it. I messed up and almost caused a fire with it putting bacon on it without any foil on it. The bacon fell inside the grill and caused a flare up. For the most part, this is a huge improvement for me coming from George Foreman Grills and other electric grills $100 or less. I may or may not cook burgers with aluminum foil. Not sure yet but I can handle losing grill marks as long as the flavor is still there and the foil will make it safer and less clean up afterwards. The burgers and the toasted buns I could even smell them before they came off and the smell was a great indicator that they were going to taste really good. Looking forward to trying the steaming feature with broccoli and also trying filet steaks on it. My goal I definitely will believe get reached and my goal is to eat out less, and in order to do that, I need a grill grill and not George Foreman, and this is definitely a real grill. You don't need gas or charcoal for it to be a real grill that cooks good enough to avoid restaurants.

If you are going to cook bacon, I would suggest getting the griddle. It covers half of the grill space. The cast iron grills are in two halves. The griddle would prevent the bacon from slipping through. I've had that issue with some vegetables. @@ChrisBFerguson

@@KevinKnauss Just ordered the griddle piece. Is there a way to use half griddle and half steamer instead of having to use the whole griddle? Two of those steamer pieces?
@KevinKnauss
@KevinKnauss Жыл бұрын
The griddle is one half of the grill area. You can use the steamer on the other half of the grill. @@ChrisBFerguson

You need to learn how to cook! You should have flipped the asparagus. Get a temperature probe. New subscriber.
@KevinKnauss

The object of the video is not show my cooking skills, but demonstrate how the grill worked for novice outdoor cooks such as myself. I have gotten a temp probe and it works great. Lesson learned. From comments from other viewers, we no longer use foil, but the asparagus was pretty good, regardless. I appreciate people pointing out my mistakes so others can learn from them.

Not sure it is safe to use the aluminium directly on the grill, I think it has a maximum temperature that it should be used at, too much and it becomes dangerous for health.
@KevinKnauss
@KevinKnauss Жыл бұрын
That is a good point. I have heard that aluminum pots and pans may have a linkage to a decline in brain function. I'll look into that.

The price of the Lumin is on the high side. Plus, I don't think it will last as long as my old propane grill that was over 20 years old. However, the cook I've experienced is much better than any grill that I've had. For people living in a condo or apartment with balcony it is a great appliance that is relatively portable.
