Go ahead and fill that oil filter with oil before installing. If you will do that and then wait a few minutes, the filter will completely soak up the oil, and you won't spill a drop.

Had a ‘75 for many years and enjoyed immensely. I would note that, assuming you will only be running in the nice weather, you really should have filled it with 20W50 oil.

Next time you fill, be sure to remove the little brass plug on the thermostat housing to let out the air and top off the coolant with a little funnel. Air gets trapped in the head, the stat won't open and it could cook the engine. Fairly common mech fail on those little 1500's.

It is impossible for any man to plug in an air tool and not squeeze the trigger twice to check it. Nice job Aaron!!

Honestly, it is important to perform a 'ring test' when you are using a power tool with a consumable blade or disc. If it was out of balance or defective, it would be noticed during this test vs under load or use, damaging your work or worse, harming the user. But yes, dudes do pull the trigger excessively whenever using power tools, It is the way.

I like Aaron's reference to Mike Patey's "get to work" or "back to work". Good to know he spend nights watching Mike's Scrappy videos. wait, that's just me? crap! Oh, and a MG with gastro-intestinal issues makes for some fun video surprises. The midget is such a mystical contradiction. 46 years old after a 20 year coma AND coolant was clean? Kudos to how it was made back then. (I assume fluids hadn't been touched since 1976!!) Peak will do her good for a long, LONG time. Moms MG is happy!!

Two items worth mentioning. That lower coolant hose was sitting right on top of the boot for the half shaft CV joint that has more holes in the boot that swiss cheese, so coolant is now imbued into the CV joint. Need to take that boot off, clean it out, repack with grease. The other point of interest is the mileage. How much wear do the pedals show. Brake, cluth, and accelerator. That is a key indicator as to how many miles are on it. 12,000 or 112,000. Only the pedals know. Love watching your channel. Great couple. Great projects.
@wilycoyote53602 жыл бұрын
Um, that's not a CV joint or a half-shaft: it's a rear-wheel drive car. More likely, you're referring to a tie-rod end boot.

looks like its going to be a fun little car. my only little issue is when you changed the oil. you had added the 4 quarts, started the engine and then checked the dipstick. i would mention it for other viewers maybe newer to working on vehicles to check the dipstick before and after starting the engine. i'm not dissing the way you did it, just i have known some, lets just say special individuals who wanted to do their own work. well they drained the oil, refilled it and started the car, never thinking that they forgot to put the drain plug back in.

If you hold the antifreeze or other jug 90° from the way you were holding it, aka on its side, and pour it slowly, it will vent air through the plastic opening in the handle back out the cap your pouring it out of withOUT gargling or chugging or pulsing. You can pour gallons without ever using a funnel ever again and not spill a single drop, give it a try!!
@dalesmith36692 жыл бұрын
For sure just turn jug sideways and let the air and coolant equalize. Never need a funnel again. Smooth pouring always.

My favorite was a Austin Haley "Frog Eye" Sprite - that puny car was soo fun to drive, and although it wasn't fast by any means it was so light, that it took the corners like a super champ! I still mis that car even now 45 years later - sigh. 7:51 - those words can destroy any man! lol

Love your enthusiasm for this charming British classic. I’m glad it’s found a good home. Having owned MGs for 36 years, I thought I’d offer some advice regarding your choice of oil. British Leyland specifies 20W/50 is the recommended oil for temps above -10C or 15F. These cars were designed for this heavier weight. Best of luck!

Watching you put that car on the lift reminds me of changing a tire on my brother's mid-70's diesel VW Rabbit. The center of gravity was so far forward you had to jack it from the front. If you tried to lift if from behind the front axle the rear end would simply leave the ground.

i like what you present and how you do, but I have done this job a couple of times, there is a hose adapter that is spliced into one of the heater hoses, so that you can attach a garden hose for flushing heater core, engine and radiator. Is the MG different that this procedure is different than that of a 6 or 8 cylinder engine, or is peak different from Prestone? Just wondering.

I still don't understand over many many years why people rub oil over the oil filter seal. As water attracts water, oil I'm figuring has the same principal. Now I'm sure, as many have said, I've not had a problem doing it that way. In my mind I want a hard dry seal. Compression of the rubber against the body of the housing it marries with as to ensure a tight clean seal. On the other hand the oil will help with the rubber not perishing over long periods of time, and in the case of finding an old classic that hasn't seen love in a long time would be a benefit. Thoughts people??? I'm intrigued!
