riprap job in Canada in swampy country .Delimbed logs would be laid down on the ground to travel on or the oil company would wait till winter freeze up for the winter pavement (frozen ground). In leu of riprap welders would take off their skid units off the back of their trucks and the company would load them up on nodwells or foremost's and weld off of them . This would be done with a poor boy crew because it would be slow going . This is where 15 foot grinder cords work well .Skid units would carry welder ,oxy acet bottles ,cable and hose wraps, and a tool and rod box .Texas style rigs are not seen in Canada .Because of terrain and winter conditions for a 3rd of the year

@@Polack-ml9fh Thanks for the reply . Work up here is in short supply and has been for quite awhile covid and a federal Government that are basically enviro Nazis . They have made things almost impossible to do in the patch many many projects have been cancelled . Welding up here one has to go through a gauntlet of government certifications . A 3 year apprenticeship ,then you have to test for a "B" pressure ticket to weld pipe . Now you get to go find a job . On top of that each province has their own certifications to get . Getting in the door with contractors takes awhile to . they have an attitude of just because you have your welding tickets doesn't mean you can weld ,and they usually have their steady eddies . @brandonthornborough44333 жыл бұрын
It's pretty easy to get on anywhere fresh out of school. Company's like graduates that are eager to keep learning. I got a job at the first shop I walked into after school. That first job is also probably going to be the hardest. There's a lot you need to learn that they don't teach in school. Best piece of advice I give people is to listen to the guys who have more experience. You learn a lot from old dogs in this trade and most of us enjoy spreading the knowledge. Also keep in contact with coworkers. That's the best way to keep finding work.

The biggest factor is speed (in pipelines), uphill takes longer than downhill but I have noticed recently the use of a downhill/lohi rod that is being used for more heavywall or high pressure pipe!
