Some Burundians might smile after hearing the name Shishira, not only because Shishira is a lovely lady, but also because in local language ``gushishira" means to wrap a yellow banana leaf around a clay pot of local brew or a basket full of foodstuff to show that you are taking them to somebody's house as a gift and not for sale. Usually neigbours come to listen the speech explaining what the visitor wants. And the alcohol (not the foodstuff) is shared with everybody. I am Burundian and I like the positivity in your video (despite the difficult economic situation in the country, and understandably people are stressed out and are camera-shy). I am glad Fabrice showed you around. 1. At 2:23 the new Burundian stadium is Stade Intwari (meaning Heros Stadium). Stade Amahoro is in neighboring Rwanda. 2. At 9:07 President Melchior Ndadaye is the Hero of democracy. He was elected in 1993 and after 3 months he was assassinated by the Burundian army and then a civil war followed. Burundi was a kingdom for about 4 centuries, but in 1966 Captain Michel Micombero staged a coup and Burundi became a republic. 3. At 9:28, the red, white, green flag is the national one, the other flag represent the East African Community.

Murakoze! We absolutely loved exploring Bujumbura. Surely, the economic situation will get better soon - Burundians appear to be smart and good natured, we're sure they'll find a way 🤓 we feel so sad that we could not share more of the country with the silly camera restrictions!

Great video. and good explaination as to what many are wondering. But one question though, there might be many good and organised beaches where you could see Tanganyika with a great, breathtaking view, in a way that could catch our attention to another level , good restaurants to eat the "Mukeke", one of the delicius fish that is kind of pride to Burundians and which they want every tourist to try, The water at the most distant Nile source which is as well used as massaging and healing water ... Is it due to camera restriction that you are not visiting different interesting places or it is due to the limitated budget of your host? But otherwise, great content. I love what I see. Keep up the great work!
@TheBackpacksters4 ай бұрын
Thank you for your kindness! And appreciate you asking us why we explored the country this way (many commentators are attacking us for what is in the video despite being truly appreciative and positive of our time in beautiful Burundi): We do have a budget constraint of our own (maybe you know it already from our channel about or from our Q&A videos earlier) and our host has been more than generous with his kindness! We appreciate him so much! Secondly, the camera restrictions are a bit hard to deal with 😅 they should allow tourists to be a bit more free. Controlling journalists is a different thing We heard from a few locals tat most of the beaches are flooded. And in the short complicated visa process, we didn't get enough time to go southward. But we still enjoyed the country so much. You'll see in upcoming videos!

What is embarassing? 😅 Bujumbura city is beautiful. We liked the spacious city centre, the Colourful markets and streets, and enjoyed the evening sunset, vibes and music in Bwiza 🙌🏼 maybe to you it's not beautiful, but to us it is! We haven't complained or spoken about the city negatively in the vlog. So "know you already" needs a rethink! The economy may be weak at the moment, but most Burundians are super nice and they'll find a way to make this better (unlike some who are more interested in pointing fingers). Our friend Fabrice is so nice! He showed us his city and and welcomed us so nicely. He is a true Burundian - represents Burundian hospitality and kindness! He is not a keyboard warrior with some expectations and agenda! And like him, we met many more amazing Burundians while there.

@vetagadu. You cannot send Burundian money to India, you have first to convert it in dollars, British pounds or rupees. For example, you cannot just send Burundian money to pay for school fees, medical treatment in India.

Could you tell us how many oil wells that Burundi has, how many mines that Burundi has? When the 2024/2025 national budget was being discussed, it showed that the mining industry was not going to contribute a single Burundian franc in the national treasury.
@Anilkhan-w8f4 ай бұрын
Is this poorest country in world? Please explain me
@TheBackpacksters4 ай бұрын
It's often considered as one - as we've highlighted with numbers in the video.
@stansiyomana12394 ай бұрын
@Anilkhan. It is based on one methodology used by international institutions (=World Bank and International Monetary Fund-IMF). They calculate the gross domestic product (GDP) per person. It is all the goods and services produced in one year. So usually agriculture has lower productivity compared to industry and tourism for example. And if you have a family with six young kids, the GDP of that family will come from what only the parents produce and will have to be divided by eight. Most Burundians argue that the country is not poor, they have Lake Tanganyika for tourism and they have minerals in the underground, but THAT IS JUST THE POTENTIAL. Burundi has probably the 6 th largest reserves of nickel metal (discovered in early 1970s) but they cannot be exploited because of lack of capital and infrastructure (a lot of electricity is needed for that and a railway to the port of Dar es salaam, Tanzania). With the floodings of some areas by the Lake Tanganyika, with the lack of fuel preventing people to do their work properly, the next GDP numbers could be even worse than what we have today.
@kamenge4 ай бұрын
😂😂😂😂 the poorest? I live in L.A . I see more poor people in the USA than in Bujumbura. In Burundi, school fees are free, and the University of Burundi is free, plus accommodation and food. I see a homeless tent city every 100 miles. People are committing suicide due to a lack of resources. But in Burundians, enjoy life at home, and the majority has a roof over their head . I don't know why we got this label
@vangoetheiyandemye3218Ай бұрын
Some information shared here is not true. Maybe your guide wasn't that fluent in English or not aware, so he said yes to whatever seems to be a bit closer to the truth. For example, Melchior wasn't the first president after independence but the first democratically elected after 3 presidents (5 if we count monarchs). The one mentioned as the city center market is not the city center market, ... But good content and keep it up....lots of love from Burundi
