I got a glimpse of Gitega. Those drums are UNESCO heritage so it is a great choice as souvenir. Felt like I was travelling with you.

When I went to visit my family in 2018, I got a good deal on some souvenirs from a small shop along the road not far from Gitega central prison. I bought a drum 47 centimeter high and 21 centimeter across. It took quite some space in my suitcase. I am so proud of it, one day I almost took it to the office of my dentist to show to people one of the characteristics of Burundian culture.

@@stansiyomana1239 They bought the drums from the same shop you bought yours. I know that small shop, I'm from GITEGA, and lived there long enough. I was there in September 2023 .

@@WelldoneBujatweets Thank you for the update, I thought that the small shop has been destroyed due to the new constructions in the new capital. In 2006, I had bought some traditional art stuff from a shop ran by Catholic nuns on some big street (I still remember there were some christian crosses...). Last time I laughed when I saw the picture of somebody who build a house in a swamp/next to a rice paddy in Gitega.

FUN FACT 😂: Shishira means decorating a any package you want to send as a gift. In other words you put Inshishiro (noun from Gushishira verb, which means gift wrap) to anything you want to gift someone, usually beer in a container or other goods packaged in a beautiful basket 🧺. Avery Burundian automatically loves the name Shishira although there isn't anyone called Shishira in Burundi 😊❤❤ I wonder what the name means in your language??

@bruno. I have never been a big beer drinker. But when I lived in Tanzania as a Burundian refugee and worked in Kyerwa District in northwestern Tanzania in 1978/1979, I think it was possible to get some Primus (smuggled from Burundi or Rwanda?). In 2006, when I was able to go to Burundi to see my family, I almost asked them to come to the airport to meet me with a bottle of Primus. But when I got to my brother's house, there were bottles of Primus. But now the taste of Primus is no longer a big deal to me (the way it was when I was in secondary school and couldn't afford it). The last time I visited Burundi in 2018, I don't think that I took any Primus, I preferred to drink some (non-alcoholic?) Royale beer.
