Had to go there for a month after nearly destroying my left elbow playing rugby, there was this old lady that never did her exercises but always brought sweets for everyone, and yeah, both the doctors and the patients were some of the nicest people I've ever met

as a PM&R resident I can confirm that the first question they ask in the interview is "Do you know what's a PM&R doctor is called?" Applicants who spell physiatrist correctly gets a brownie point.

I usually scheduled my appointments with my physiatrist and my psychiatrist on the same day, so I could just tell people that I'm going to see my therapists

As someone who has been treated by two PMR doctors at this point, I can say that I do indeed love them.

I work in a spinal practice (neuro, ortho, PMR) and the physiatrists are *the* nicest guys. Probably helps that they don't have to do surgeries Very underrated field. They're always overbooked on EMGs, because there just aren't enough physiatrists to do it. I'd totally encourage med students to look into this field. It has a pretty good work/life balance and *really* needs more people in it. Also, just to explain: PMR is basically conservative pain treatment. They do epidurals, medial branch nerve blocks, ablations, and tend to refer people to physical therapy. They're basically the "I don't want surgery" option.

Since I have a handicapped kid we've seen a lot of specialists over the years and I usually get the stereotypes. But although he's seen a physiatrist for years, this is the first time I'd heard it wasn't a popular specialty. Honestly, I can't imagine why, although the job does seem to entail a lot of interaction with DME suppliers and that perhaps isn't too pleasant. (I suppose that's a DME catalogue the attending is leafing through when Med Student shows up.) Especially when it comes to the part where you're trying to get insurance companies to *pay* for the DME like they're supposed to.

Broke my bone in January in motorcycle accident and has been going to physiotheraphy for over 6 months twice a week. I buy lunches for all of my physiotherapists once in a while and exchange gossips about our lives. They really do become your friends real fast.

I did rehab as a med student and I promise you that was the exact reaction I got. No one knew what to do with me because no one ever goes there 😂

Just started as a medical social worker on the ortho trauma and MICU floors- I definitely thought “physiatrist” was a typo 😅😅 and had to ask multiple times what PM&R stood for 🤦🏻♀️ like literally asked again today lol So this video was timely for me! 😂

I remember the PM&R rotation. It was amusing AF about how all the residents would talk about golfing, and the whole specialty felt to me like ‘the organizational leader of the therapists’.

People stumbling into PM&R thinking they're gonna like it, getting disappointed when they realize what it really is, and then turning out to absolutely love it when they realize the joy of helping people get back to living their best lives.
