First Day of Tết in Vietnam - Setting Good Habits for the Lunar New Year

In this vlog I start the Lunar New Year (Tết) off right with an early morning beach exercise session. I declare some habits and resolutions that I would like to achieve for the Lunar New Year. I also ask Trang what some of her priorities are for the first day of Tet, and what her goals are for the year.

Happy Lunar New Year. I'm in the Philippines, they also celebrate the Lunar New Year here, it was a national holiday (2 days) here. they have completely different traditions though from Tet. they have this stuff called "tikoy" which is like mochi, and tons of pancit (Filipino noodles) and round fruits for good luck. they give relatives "angpaw"/red envelopes here too. imagine, the Spanish were here for 300 years and forced catholicization on the majority, but they hadn't really forced Filipinos to get rid of quite a lot of the older traditions they share with other Asians behind the catholic veneer. I totally hear you about mental health, I too struggle with depression, coupled with feelings of immense loneliness and mental isolation. I like your ideas, I'll try them too. I'm trying to also look at mindfulness more too. let's see if these can help me too. it is very beautiful there.

How does it feel to see the sun rise over the ocean as opposed to seeing the sun set like you used to?

I think both sunrise and sunset are nice in their own way. It's interesting that you asked this question. I was also thinking about sunrise vs. sunset in a somewhat different context when I was watching this video. I was thinking about the amount of light that is coming from the sun and how similar the relative amount of light is at sunrise versus sunset. It's sort of symbolic in that the sun takes this journey from start to finish and ends up in kind of the same place that it started. This related to a passage I was reading about how "back is the way forward" (Jordan Peterson, 12 Rules for Life an Antidote to Chaos) in which he nods to T.S. Eliot's "Little Gidding": "And the end of all our exploring, Will be to arrive where we started, And know the place for the first time." Thanks for your comment.
