The launch event held at the Technology Park in Bukit Jalil on the 8th of June 2023. We managed a very, very short test drive of the 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor 2.0L and we were quite impressed with its SUV or even car like refinement inside, even though we were doing a little bit of off-roading. Noise suppression was seriously good and it does feel more SUV rather than a pickup truck.
I think this is also down to the long travel Fox shock absorbers as well as the whole suspension setup of the Raptor. The pickup truck even felt composed when you're travelling at speed during the Sporty Baja Mode used for high speed off-road driving.
With all the various modes - from sand, mud and rutt, snow, baja, there is a mode for every terrain and when you couple to that intelligent All wheel drive system and that 10 speed automatic transmission, this is a toy for nearly every driving occasion on and off-road.
So what are the drawbacks? Not much, maybe I wasn't too impressed on the door handle used to open the door. It is slightly awkward in its position and aside from a very, very short drive to be able to actually form a proper opinion, I was actually pleased with how the Raptor 2.0L performed - Most likely due the the 500Nm of torque (with 210Ps) the truck had and the various drive modes that you can play with. Wish the drive was longer.
The Next-Generation 2023 (onwards) Ford Ranger Raptor 2.0L Bi-Turbo Diesel is priced at RM248,888 for Peninsular Malaysia and RM252,188 for East Malaysia, on the road without insurance and road tax.
