A lot of people mention speed all the time in comments , been driving 52 years and realised it not about speed ( you’re not on a race track ) 5 seconds to 60 is fast enough , it’s more about efficiency, range in town cars meant for towns 140 miles is massive. Out of town 250-300 miles is sufficient, you do need a decent break 1/2 hour to top up with food , charge your ev etc . Ps I also drive motorbikes , my current bike 0- 60 mph just under 4 secs plenty fast enough only used for overtakes , top speed of bike is 70mph . Could go twice that but I’d be in a box 🤪. Don’t please tell me I’m dull , I’ve done track days and been over 140mph . 😊😊👍👍👍

Yes, 5 seconds to 60mph is fast enough. Nearly 10 seconds to 60mph isn't. This car has so many great qualities but that is a really poor figure for something in this class. It should be sub-8 seconds.

I’m just shocked that Peugeot chose to release ANOTHER hybrid 508 for 2023 instead of going full electric like this e-308 🤦🏾♂️
@pmholling Жыл бұрын
The new 508 is really only a refresh of the current one. Peugeot/Stellantis are at a junction. The 508 and these 308s are on the old, outgoing (e)-EMP platform. The replacement STLA-M is not quite ready yet. The new E-3008 will be the first car on that platform, hopefully showing up in the new year. Once that is bedded in I would expect the replacements of the other EMP cars to happen in due course. Of course Peugeot will want a good few years out of the current 308 as it is a recent version

Good car, and decent review. One small thing - you keep talking about "efficient batteries" - but this is misguided - it is mainly the inverter, motor, drivetrain, tires and aerodynamics (plus heatpump, etc) which makes an EV efficient, not the battery per se. If all of those aspects are efficient, yes the battery can be a more modest capacity for a given range. Stellantis keep making good tweaks to the platform efficiency, and should be congratulated.

Manufacturers are going to have to produce cars like this if they’ve any hope of bringing EVs to the ordinary public. Interesting that it didn’t come completely to a stop. I recently hired a Polestar 2 & I’d say that was its killer feature (you can obviously turn it off) but when moving in traffic all you have to do is lift off the accelerator completely & the car stops & just sits there until the traffic is moving again.
@Trnquill Жыл бұрын
Indeed, interesting choice from Peugeot. But then again, many manufacturers are the same. Not even half of models available now have one pedal driving. Huge wasted opportunity! It should be a togglable feature just like in Polestar so the drivers could decide themselves. One pedal driving is one of the best features in EV's for sure! As another example Nissan decided to "modify" the one pedal driving for Ariya. In Leaf it works amazingly well, regenerating harder if there's traffic ahead etc. and comes to a complete stop as expected. However, Ariay according to marketing "has one pedal driving but it's disabled at low speeds"! 🤣 So... it does not have one pedal driving! By the way you sort-of get one pedal driving on Peugeot with adaptive cruise control. If there's someone in front of you and they stop, you stop. Then you'll just press the pedal to start driving again. So, the car sure knows how to "one pedal drive", it's just their decision not to offer it as a feature. Sad!
@MotorScotti10 ай бұрын
The downside of never using the mechanical brakes due to regen is that the brake discs start to rust. It's become a real issues with EVs. Once you actually need them, they don't work anymore. Of course that doesn't happen over night, but still. My guess ist that Stellantis aren't offering full regen on their brands for that reason.

No. It's because Peugeot decided to skip the most wonderful feature an EV can have: one pedal driving. According to the EV Database, the real world range for this Peugeot E-308 is more like 185 miles - dropping to 130 highway miles in winter. This shows the real downside of using a platform that was designed for internal combustion engines. Why buy this when the Megane E Tech has 235 real world miles, costs less, and is better looking? It's easier to park too since it doesn't need a massive front end.
@Trnquill Жыл бұрын
Megane is a tall SUV, E-308 kinda low'ish hatch. The upside of non-dedicated EV platform is batteries under the seats ONLY, not under the entire floor effectively raising the car up by 15+ cm. In E-308 you sit lower (than in Megane) AND have better legroom (than in Model 3).

Nice car, but frankly overpriced for a C-segment family car. The price needs to come down by at least £10,000. The WLTP range is a bit underwhelming as well when the MG4 Long Range, Renault Megane Etech, Hyundai Kona, and Kia Niro EV all have over 270 miles of WLTP range and are the same price or less. Stellantis seriously need to have a look at their prices, this is not competitive. It seems to me the Stellantis Group are really compromised by their use of a multi-engine platform - one is paying a premium for an EV yet getting the space and transmission tunnel restrictions of an ICE. As has been commented below - regenerative braking which does not bring the vehicle to a complete stop is also a fail which this car shares with quite a few others. It will be interesting to see if the Stellantis promises that the new battery/power/efficiency improvements result in 5 miles per Kwh proves to hold up to some longer term testing. Is this something Electrifying will be checking out, or are we stuck with just hearing manufacturer claims? I am not quite sure where the choice between the low power performance of this e308 or the stupidly fast performance of the MG4 Xpower came from; any one of the MG4 range is significantly more powerful than this e308 and also quite a bit cheaper.

I'd rather have an EV that is less that £15k. Looks like I'm never going to get one then...

Looks deadly dull and heavy handed to me - tiny windows and slab sides....

You end up with half baked electric cars... Not good enough, They're still living in the past, and gloss black looks ridiculously cheap and nasty, dark roof lineing looks terrible...

EV prices are just too high for about 90% of potential buyers, and this is no different. Certainly too expensive for what you're getting. For the same sort of money, you can get a Honda Civic hybrid that has twice the range and never needs charging. The simple truth is, that right now is far too soon for the majority of drivers to make the switch to EVs. Prices are too high, and charging infrastructure is inadequate. If European car makers don't find a way to significantly lower their prices in the next ten years, they're going to lose a massive amount of customers to the Chinese...

Maybe the Honda never needs charging but just plugging an EV in on the drive once or twice a week is so much more convenient than having to find a petrol station. I agree on the prices and infrastructure. We're not there yet.

Prices are on the way down too. Expected price parity with petrol cars in the next 2 years. And consider then how laughably cheap they are to run! When petrol cars can only get more expensive.

A Civic hybrid is £35k, so I guess 90% of potential buyers are priced out of that too. Good job, because once they bought it, they’d have to leave the house to go and buy tanks of petrol at £62.78 every time. An MG4 is only £27k, you can charge at home and a full charge would only be £4.83 on a clean green energy tariff. No tailpipe fumes either

Another poor attempt by stellantis. It just highlights how far behind they are.

What? The back of an all black Peugeot with very small windows feels airy? I don’t trust your review when this is what you perceive

Feel sorry for the presenters having to polish the proverbial , as soon as the price was mentioned most normal people are priced out of buying eu evs , sorry but china builds better evs for 10 grand less than this , I just can’t get my head round how vw stallantis and others in Europe and USA think we’re all stupid

What £38,000, are they nuts? A new Tesla Model 3, 2024 MY, is £39,990!! Have Peugeot not heard of Tesla? When the new Tesla Model 2 comes in 2025 (or thereabouts) Stellantis aren't going to survive...................

I don't think this modern design language is going to age well. Too "plasticky" looking.

Over priced and fails to take advantage of EV architecture, why would you buy one?
