First Drive On The Road Since 1975! Abandoned 1962 AMC Rambler

After countless hours of work, we finally drove the 1962 AMC Rambler Classic Deluxe for the first time in nearly 50 years! This car has been abandoned and untouched since at least 1975, but today marks a major milestone in bringing it back to life.
We had to install a 1962 Cadillac master cylinder to fix the brakes. We built a brand-new fuel line after the old line popped. We also disassembled and cleaned the carburetor to get the engine running like a dream.
It’s been an exciting journey, and this moment makes all the hard work worthwhile. Watch as we take the Rambler back on the road where it belongs!

Finally Freeman! It runs and drives! How many things can stand in the way of an old car? A lot if the vehicle was mistreated! We had a '62 Classic for about 1 year before the oil burning got real bad! Had that aluminum engine, bad engine.

In late 70's I owned a 1969 Rambler American. One of the better cars I had, 199 cu.in. six with 3 speed manual. It got 24 mpg on the hi way. The northern winters didn't treat it well, with1,15000 miles it had to be scrapped as it rusted so bad. Engine and trans were still running fine, I miss that rambler.

Generally not a good idea to have a filter prior to a mechanical fuel pump. Better to have it after the pump. Also, speaking from personal - real life experience - I’d replace that glass filter with a plastic unit. I had one where the seals ended up leaking badly, and another time when I was stranded on the side of the road, I bump the line and it shattered the glass. Made a bad situation even worse. Anyway, keep up the great vids. Love seeing your progress on something unique, as well as your cool, mellow style.

The OHV 195.6 is a great little engine, but make sure you torque the head and adjust the valves, and do so every 2 years, or you could crack the head.

What a whacky end to a worthy project. In teaching restoration i always preach brake system first follwed by full fuel system overhau to head iff some of the late problems you had. Will u drive it the 500 miles to the new house?
