After going from driving a manual since passing my test 20 odd years ago the hardest part of switching to automatic initially was getting used to just using 2 pedals with my right foot. My brain just couldn’t get used to it for ages! If it was one pedal for each foot it would be no trouble 😂
@ChimpOnCars28 күн бұрын
It does take some getting used to! I still drive both types so find myself feeling for a clutch in the auto with my left foot sometimes.

Great vid, one question as im being taught by my dad instead of paying for lessons- when coming to a stop at traffic lights which you will be at for a good minute or so, is the pattern handbrake + park, handbrake + neutral or would you just keep your foot on the brake and stay in drive?
@ChimpOnCars2 ай бұрын
Sorry for the delayed response! We would normally stay in drive and not go to neutral. We would use the handbrake or parking brake when 'a pause becomes a wait'. Especially after dark when our bright red brake lights can become dazzling to a vehicle behind us.

Ive got my driving lesson coming up on this coming Thursday (20/1) so nervous it’ll be my First time driving a car. Im scared with the fact that cars can pick up speed quickly and if I’ll kangaroo it or kerb it. Weird thing is I’ve been riding a motorbike for nearly 6 years so I don’t know why I’m so nervous
@ChimpOnCars16 күн бұрын
As you have been riding a motorbike I would suggest that you will find it OK. Good luck and listen to your instructor as he or she will have plenty of tips to help in those first few lessons.

What do you use the I gear for?
@suuie7 ай бұрын
To put the car in park reversed drive neutral or sports mode P R D N S and the gears depend how fast you want to go like when you change gear on a bicycle 🚴
@ChimpOnCars7 ай бұрын
We don’t have an ‘I’ gear in this car. Maybe you have a 1 gear on your automatic gear selector? This would hold the car in first gear if you do.

Why would anyone want to pass an automatic driving test? You would be stuffed if you needed to drive a manual.

Good point, for some people an auto is the only option. As most electric and hybrid drivetrains are auto the future looks to be more automatic gearbox than manual.

I am a new driver and just bought a Renault Clio initiale(2010) automatic. When I am doing maneuroves and have it in 'drive' or 'reverse' it sometimes creeps forward/backwards but then stops and stays still so I have to press the accelerator to get it to move which makes it go too fast during the maneurove. Is using the brake during the maneurove stopping the creep function from working when I take my foot off it?
@ChimpOnCars8 ай бұрын
The car will creep normally on flat or downhill bits of road but stop creeping on uphill bits. You should be able to put a little bit of accelerator in to get it moving but it can be difficult to do just enough. Try it in a quiet road with no traffic around. If you are unable to do just a little gas or the car seems to not creep when expected then get it checked out. From what you said it sounds normal.
