Just a bit of random info, Exmoor locos have been built up to 15 inch gauge! There are quite a few built at that gauge, I worked with two Ellie and Ruby at the Lappa Valley Railway in Cornwall, and Perrygrove have a couple based there too!

Fantastic detox to some of the contemporary bleakness to see Lawrie getting impressed by a genuinely well build little locomotive. Lawries hand on the regulator he barley had to encourage Victoria, It was the locomotive equivalent of letting cattle out to spring pasture. I need to visit Britain again some day and check out a few of these railways Lawrie has visited.

I do not think that there were any 12 1/4 gauge railways in the UK until Littlehampton and Hayling Island just after the second war, and those used equipment quite unlike Victoria. John Ellerton adopted 12 1/4 gauge for the Reseau Guerledan and later Fairbourne. The genre of miniature railways represented on this video really owes its whole existence to the Stirland family at Exmoor Steam Railway.
@Rhylmr Жыл бұрын
As I'm being smartarse here I might add that the robust nature of Victoria is just 'Exmoor standard', all their locos are made like that and they all run well out of the box. The leading truck on Victoria was presumably requested by the customer Joe Nemeth, and is slightly unusual as it takes a fair bit of care and extra work to give it space to swing about. Best Wishes Simon

Reminds me a bit of Dolgoch or Talyllyn, maybe Altonia if it was a proper steam engine? or maybe it's just the color. Either way it's a beautiful modern steam engine, and what's this? a cab that actually makes sense and is comfortable for single-man operations? That's virtually unheard of on the narrow gauge.
@NJPurling Жыл бұрын
Yorkshire Area National Coal Board locomotives had a livery akin to this, but no pin-striping on a std gauge Hunslet 0-6-0ST. The locomotive looks 'old', yet you can't tie down exactly what it is. Without any clues as to the scale of the thing it could be from the Tallylyn Railway in Wales.
@notmuch_23 Жыл бұрын
One thing Lawrie doesn't cover that I want to know about is the couplings and how they work. I see the couplers on the rolling stock, but how are they connected? do the couplers require anything else between them like a chain or link bar? Do the couplers have any draft gear?
@LancashireAndYorkshire Жыл бұрын
I think that's a link and pin system, you slot a link in to the coupler, a pin to secure it, and then reverse into the carriage/wagon and slot a pin in there to connect.
@notmuch_23 Жыл бұрын
@@LancashireAndYorkshire I gathered that, on this railroad, but not every coupling is like that.
