Actually, Don Felder came up with all of the music for this song. The song you're thinking of where Joe Walsh would warm up playing the lick was "Life in the Fast Lane". Glen Frey heard Joe warming up and told him, "that's a song!" The lyrics came from Frey who was riding shotgun with his buddy in a corvette and the guy was going like 130mph. Glen is like, "whoa dude!" His buddy is like, "Life in the Fast Lane, man!"
@Mel6843 жыл бұрын
@@RobGamesOn Christina is correct. If you go back and watch the history of the eagles - Felder credits Walsh for creating the ditty. Felder says he couldn’t come up with an ending and Walsh was like “what if we did it like this?”…and the rest was history.

Although the band has never wanted to explain their lyrics, they say they want the audience to find their own interpretation, it helps to analyze them through the lens of time - 1976. The hard drug culture - cocaine, heroin, LSD had almost an entire generation struggling with addiction. The Eagles’ guitarist, Joe Walsh, famously battled “the beast”. Have a good listen to the lyrics again. This is not a hotel you want to visit: “...you can check out any time you want (“checking out” is a euphemism for dying), but you can never leave (once you’re addicted you’re always addicted). It’s safe to say that if you look at 70s and 80s music from a drug culture perspective, you’ll get to the truth of the song 80% of the time. I saw the Eagles in concert a couple of years ago, they still sound great, their live performances and studio albums are pretty much identical quality-wise. Glenn Frey’s passing in 2016 has left a gap that they’ve filled with Glenn’s son and the addition of the legendary Vince Gill to the band. I wept when they played this song, I was in grade 12 when it was first released. It’s the stuff of musical legacy.

Not a real hotel. A metaphorical one: California with all of its excesses. GREAT REACTION. There was no actual Hotel California It is a metaphor. Here is the history of the song. I am older, I am 72 years old. I lived through this. This was my era and my generation. The cry of our ERA, was "SEX, DRUGS AND ROCK AND ROLL" The reference to 1969 was WOODSTOCK. See, the hippie and yippie movement started in California. It was the time of "FREE LOVE and WEED and DRUGS.." Hotel California offered and provided EVERYTHING you wanted or needed. "We are all just prisoners here of our own device." Mirrors over the beds, sex. Alcohol, "The FEAST on the bed, was cut with a knife" the BEAST was DRUGS. (FEED YOUR ADDICTION, (THE DRUG OF THAT DAY WAS HEROIN) Stay as long as you want or leave anytime, (but you NEVER leave your ADDICTION behind). In 1977 they sang about these things in code or EXAMPLE, AND METAPHORS, for words that you could not record in 1977, or they would have been CENSORED and never played on any radio station. In an interview in 2007 the Eagles admitted they themselves were drowning in these temptations, just as ALL of California was. GO BACK AND LISTEN AGAIN TO THE SONG, Listen for the lyrics of, this can be heaven or hell. You will see that I am correct.

Hotel California was released in 1976 on the album of the same name. It was the first album to feature current member Joe Walsh and the last album to feature original bass player Randy Meisner. The song is NOT about an ACTUAL hotel! According to drumming lead vocalist Don Henley, it’s about the excess of American culture. He admitted in a later interview, the song is about the American Dream and it’s dark underside. Meaning that the American Dream can sometimes turn into the American nightmare and how life can go from innocence to experience.

Another Singer/Drummer you would like is The Band, Levon Helm was incredible. Recommend The Wieght from The Last Waltz with the Staples. As far as the meaning of the song, I always felt it was about addiction, I dont think that was what the Eagles said it was about but it just fits to me. The "Hotel" seems like an oasis, and initially its great, nice cars, pretty girls, wine, mirrors on the ceilings, pink Champaign on ice, and "some dance to remember, some dance to forget" some take drugs to remember and some to forget. but then once you are addicted you cant ever get enough, you cant ever satisfy the craving "in their masters chamber's, they gather for the feast, they stab it with their steely knives but they just cant kill the beast", and once your addicted you are always addicted, even if you manage to quit, you will always have that addiction inside you "you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave"

@ep616112 жыл бұрын
According to the two authors of the song, it has no specific meaning. Any meaning inferred by the listener is something from the listener's own imagination. There is no actual Hotel California - the "hotel" could be a bad drug experience. It could be an insane asylum. It's a collection of meaningless nothing and offered to the listener as the same. It's all up to personal interpretation. The song was such a successful mix of imaginary hodgepodge (it's still played every 11 minutes on average), that they made the mistake of trying to top it with an even better song - and this was one of the reasons they broke up.

Once upon a time...I went to Milpitas California for a class. I got there, checked into the hotel, called my wife and said "Grab a plane, come on down and we'll spend the weekend in San Francisco. I'm staying at the Hotel California." Because that's what the place looked like. Oh yeah, she got there, and they had a fire in the kitchen. We got to spend about an hour standing around in the parking lot. But there was an upside...the hotel opened up the bar for free drinks and pizza! Great trip.

I prefer the meaning of the Hotel as an "after-life" experience, and not the drug culture. As you may learn, the Hotel you can check in, but you can never leave.

The Eagles has three lead singers, depending on the song. Masters at their craft…had very successful solo careers. My fav, Joe Walsh (red bandana).

They could all sing lead and all were great musicians. Had solo careers. One of the most musically gifted bands ever. Try the band and marshall Tucker.

Joe Walsh explains what The Hotel California was about in a video on YT. H says it was about a time when California was the musical Mecca that musicians from all over the country were gravitating towards.

It's a song about the CRC prison in Norco, CA. Where he was once lived. He won't admit it in interviews but that is what it's about.

To me, Hotel California is about a place of addiction, where all your desires and fantasies are fulfilled but the catch is that this fantasy land then becomes your prison. Hotel California turns into a place of no escape to those who went there to serve their own secret desires. Scary but true! Brilliant song writing!

That really didn't get through to you at all LOL. it's all about drug addiction and how you can't get away from it, not an actual hotel anyone wants to visit. "You can check out anytime, but you can never leave"

In a concert by The Carpenters I attended in 1970, the lead singer Karen played drums during the entire performance.
